The first European immigrants came to America, stole the land from the Native Americans, raped and murdered their women and children, and killed off almost all the buffalo and other grazing animals so the Plains "Indians" couldn't use them, as they had for hundreds and hundreds of years. And now, haha, we're denying immigrants, namely those from Mexico, the right to enter our country "illegally"? Does anyone else find ironic humor in this?

Furthermore, if you agree with the statement "We live in America, speak English!", then why aren't YOU speaking Cherokee, Apache, Navajo, or some other Native American language, the TRUE native languages to America?

And please keep in mind, that yes, I do acknowledge that immigration has happened since the dawn of time. But come on! What other nation is having such a heated ongoing debate about this issue?

PS - American didn't exist in 1776. The Articles of Confederation were written in 1777, and ratified in 1781. The Constitution as we know it today wasn't ratified until June 21, 1788, with some obvious changes added to it along the way.

I'm a history and politics major.

To continue, I'm third generation of a Sicilian fisherman who came to this country for an opportunity to live, and to support his family. Why can't immigrants in this era do the same? I know that civilization is not advanced enough to start denying the right to live in a country where living is easier, and whatever happened to the rights of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of property [note that it originally was not "happiness]? Has this nation come to the belief of denying hardworking and willing folk the means and abilities to work jobs that rich white people won't work?

And I don't like English :) That's why I'm also studying Arabic [yeeeah, I'll be a terrorist!], Hindi, Farsi [that's Persian, in case you didn't know], Spanish, and Italian.

Hah, in addition, even if my education isn't doing me justice, you're still paying for it. I'm on full-ride.

I'm putting this to a vote, since some of you think I have a sick sense of humor, finding irony in the immigration of our ancestors. Which, allow me to inform you, I do not. I simply think that the leaders of our country have forgotten where our roots lie upon: immigration. By making harder for a specific race to enter our nation for a chance at a better life, it seems as if the nation is turning itself in to the hypocrasy police. You get angry at the sheer idea that I suggest we speak the native languages of the original people who were here, and for what reason? Because it's a valid point? The truth is, this country would be nowhere, without the necessary help of immigrant laborers. If we didn't have the Irish, Italians, Mexicans, or Asians, who would have built up the rich white man's wealth? Of course they wouldn't have. They didn't want to get their soft, delicate hands dirty, scarred, bruised, or cut.

So, I ask you to vote. Thank you for [some of your] respect.

Open your eyes and read a newspaper many countries in the world are having illegal immigrant problems England (Turks Eastern Europeans ) most of the EU (same as England ) New Zealand(Pacific islanders) China (Northern Koreans) and many others,by the way I'm not a American but I live here legally after waiting 18 months to get my greencard.
So I have no problems with immigrants I'm not racist but we need to move on from what happened over a 100 years ago, face the facts, provide help for those that need it (African Americans disproportionately high numbers in prisons suffering diabetes and heart disease)
I live in a state with high numbers of illegals and I see how hard many of them work but unfortunately most of the work is non taxed due to the fact they have no SSN, so when they get sick they go to the public hospital putting a strain on its resources because they don't have insurance to pay thus making it harder for those citizens also without insurance to get care.
In the city where I live over $200 million was spend on indigent care estimates state that approx. 1/2 -2/3 of that was for illegal immigrants.
Also English is widely considered the language of commerce in EU countries english is widely taught in schools
I know its a hard language to learn but so is Spanish
masculine/feminine pronouns anyone ?
I have no problem with people wanting to keep their culture and language but in a country where currently the predominant
language is english at least people could try to learn.
In an emergency situation if someone can't speak english how can they tell the police officer who assaulted them or the Dr which allergies they have?
But with your mayors I guess you don't care you will probablely become a politician getting paid once again by the taxpayer to make predictable speechs and snide remarks!

NO, it's not hilarious. If you find it funny, you have a low character. Why are you bragging about freeloading off of the tax payers? My husband, who is Native American (Shoshone Bannock) feels the same way that I do. The people who are alive in this country now are not responsible for the horrors that the Natives of this land went through. My grandmother was full blood Cherokee and if you are as educated as you say, you know about the Trail of Tears, where 4,000 Cherokee perished on their forced death march in the dead of winter to Oklahoma. That is only a drop in the bucket when it comes to the inexcusable injustices and horrors committed against the true Natives of this land. No, I don't think it's hilarious. You sound like a very callous and shallow human being.

We are very much against illegal immigration. We care about this country and what is left of it. It's a shame that you don't. You are a disgrace to America.

Yep thank you for stating the fact that knowledge is the key to ignorance. Nobody could even prove you wrong because you are right, historically speaking.

It all boils down to the fact that they dont care about the education or the welfare, what they care about is feeling superior over minority groups that they accuse of taking their jobs or getting welfare.

and to princesswhitehood: so much for 3 languages, you cant even spell, what about the animals your people killed for fur and jerky before you got on the land? they were the first inhabitants! haha.

this is humorous, but that's the world, and europeans believed that they were far more superior than any other people in the world, cuz they were "civilized" ....and at the time they were majority with guns an dtechnology, which the natives didn't have<-so that's why we speak english..a civilization can overcome one if it is more powerful

Hey, I know that it's rough what happened to the aboriginal peoples that were here. However I see no reason for it to happen again. After all 2 wrongs don't make a right.

first, you need to go back to history class, it wasn't as simple as that. many of the settlers were just as peaceful as many of the indian tribes, who wanted nothing more than to be out from under the kings rule, they neither bothered the indians nor disrespected them. there were also many settlers who wanted the land for themselves and murdered and pillaged peaceful indian tribes. furthermore there were also many ruthless indian tribes that spent their days murdering and pillaging innocent white settlers, namely defenseless women and children. so don't give me that 'peaceful indian, ruthless settlers' crap, it went both ways.
Secondly, true it is that the white man slaughtered the buffalo, especially in the name of the transcontinental railroad, however as soon as the indians obtained the white mans gun, killing buffalo, as well as many other fur-bearing animals, gained momentum. it is well known that the native american is responsible for the extinction of many species of animals. so don't give me that 'the white man killed off all of the indians food' crap.
Third, the country was wild and open, hundreds of thousands of acres of forest and desert and plaines, a country that would prosper, but it needed populated. and now that it is, it is time for conservation, time to limit the amount of people who immigrate here before we are as overpopulated as china.
there, that is your history lesson. hopefully you are less stupid for having heard it.

Oh, this tired old cr*p again. Look: emigration has happened for hundreds of thousands of years, all over the world. The current holders of any piece of ground have taken it through whatever violence was necessary to succeed, and now make rules about who else can and can't enter, and how they themselves are expected to behave. The Greeks, Russians, Chinese, Native Americans, and everybody else (except possibly the Ethiopians) were all immigrants at one time, all of them using whatever means were necessary to get what they wanted, and made their own exclusionary laws and rules. The Native Americans are not TRUE natives; they also immigrated, from Asia.

Do I find ironic humor in your rant? No, I find only ignorance.

That wasn't 'America' which is short hand for the United States of America. That only existed after 1776.

And no, I don't find it ironic. What I find ironic is people whose countries have every bit as bloody a past as our own trying to use this as an argument.
