I have read a ton of stuff, Does anyone know.......
1. does perm solution kill eggs and lice?
2. Does tea tree oil really work to repell lice, and prevent them?
3. I have heard that spraying hair with listerene, will help repell them, does it really?

First of all, you seem to have done everything right. If she's still getting them, the source is more than likely a child she's playing with. My daughter had lice in Pre-K too and it was hard, but here's what we did:

We sprayed her bed with bug killer, then put on this special mattress cover. It's for people with allergies. It was fairly inexpensive and if there were any eggs on there, they're unable to come through the cover.

We put Vaseline and olive oil in her hair. Not at the same time, of course. Then we washed it out with lice shampoo. After that, we set her down directly under a bright light so that we could see the nits. We used our finger nails and sat there and picked each one out. Nit by nit. This was the recommendation of DHS and it worked. It's also how they checked her hair in order to allow her back into school.

We also bought her a new pillow and put a pillow protector on it.

Other than that, we washed ALL her clothes, shampooed her carpet and put RID spray on all the furniture.

They told us she'd miss a week of school, but she only missed 3 days. By shining the light on the nits, we were able to get all of them and that's what DHS told us got her back to school so soon.

We wish you luck and don't feel guilty over this happening. I took it hard for awhile, then realized we did nothing wrong. She got it from school, only that child wasn't caught.

EDIT: I understand about being hard to see in her hair color. That's why I suggested shining a bright light on her head. That makes the nits easier to see. Nothing in the world will work until you get rid of the nits. I got this idea from DHS here, which clears the child so they can go back to school. The bright light is hhow they told me to pick them out and how they inspected her to go back to school. Honestly, I know what I'm talking about. TRY IT!!

Lice and nits have become resistant to all of the pesticides available on the market. The only way you can get all of the lice is to make sure you comb every single nit out of her hair. I know there is a kit that has several different combs in it that you can use, and there are also combs that deliver a little shock to the nits and supposedly kill them. Listerine and Tea Tree Oil will not kill them, perm solution will not kill them either. Some people think you can smother them with vaseline or something, but most of them will still survive. We got notes last year because they found a kid with lice at my daughter's school. My daughter's teacher told us that people who wear a lot of styling products tend not to get lice. I looked this up on-line and found a site where people were contributing tips about preventing lice. Several people said that they wear hairspray and other producs and when their kids brought home lice, they didn't catch it but others in the household who didn't use styling products did. So I started putting mousse in my daughter's hair and I'd spritz hair spray on her before taking her to school. I'm not saying this is sure fire way to prevent lice, but they are such a nuisance that it's worth it to at least try. Good Luck.

Here's whats going on; if you found nothing & six days later found 5 bugs then there is someone your daughter is playing with that has it. If your daughter continues to play with this child who keeps their hair untreated she will keep getting bugs. A perm can kill the lice but she can catch soon after and it will be harder to find if you get a curl-perm.
When I had lice as a child my mom used Nix two times in one week and kept my hair up in a tight bun. I was told not to use anyones brushes, clothes, etc and to not have my head close w/ any of my other little friends... worked for me.
ALSO; washing hair twice a day with shampoo will not kill lice. Lice like both clean and dirty hair.

I have been there. My daughter is a dirty blond. You just have to keep at it. Throw away all her hair barettes, pony tails or seal them up in an air tight bag for like 2 wks. I threw away hair brushes and everything and started over. The tea tree oil does help. Since we started using that about once a month haven't seen them in two years. (knock on wood). Also I have been told to dry the hair especially near the scalp and around the ears. I am not sure if it kills the bugs or the eggs, but I have found that while I was blowdrying it after a treatment, I really could see the eggs. ... I have also heard, but not tried, liquid fabric softner, supposedly the eggs absorb the softener and it smothers them or something. .... I understand your pain. .. Good luck.

OK, been there, done all that, freaked out the same way. First go get a big jar of mayo or Veg. oil. Use this instead of nix. Easier on the kid and don't have cancer causing potential. Soak their head with it. Use a new nit comb, available from a pharmacist. USE THE METAL COMB. Comb out her hair, repeat. If she has really long hair, place a plastic bag over her hair, clip with a hair clip (boiled), and let it sit overnight. Mayo and Veg oil will both smother the freaking things. Next, Wal-mart has lice spray for beds and stuff. GET IT. Its not just enough to wash everything. For 2 weeks, bag all of her toys, pillows, stuffed animals, coats jackets, sweaters, etc. Keep them outside all bagged up. Throw away ALL of her hair things, YOURS too. All scrunchies, brushes, combs, elastics, EVERYTHING! If you don't know where she got it, keep her out of others homes for a bit, until your sure their gone, she could have a little friend whoms comb or brush or scrunchy or even pillow she may be using. Also don't forget to spray your furniture, etc, but also the carpet! This spray and these other things finally saved us. It sounds like alot but trust me its worth it!

We had the same problem an understatment for nit picking but it is hard we went out a bought what the pharmacy would not give any to very little info on this it is called a robie comb and you use it for 2-3 weeks because as the nits are hatching you are killing them before matureity it really works in England they use it in the schools on all the children. It can be used on all kids. Also use tea tree oil shampoo in hair or us tea tree oil you can also use minneral oil all over hair but pour it on and stick a hair net on it smoothers them

I am sorry you are going through such a hard time, lice infestation is very easy to get and very difficult to get rid of.

First, i would use Dawn dishwashing liquid, use it as you would shampoo. Secondly and i hope you don't think of me as a nut, but, get some of the flea/tick stuff that you just put a drop on the neck of the dog/cat... check with your pharmacist or your vet to make sure that specific kind/brand, such as advantige is safe for your child to use on there back/neck. This killed the lice on my daughters hair real quick. Keep repeating the dawn hair shampooing for 3 days straight and always use conditioner and last but not least, start a fire (cook out fire) and blow the smoke from the fire into the hair but cover her/his face up so as to only get the hair smoke filled...the smoke should kill the remaining lice bugs..... take care...

GOOD LUCK

Treat with a lice shampoo. Use a nit comb everyday with loads and loads of conditioner until the head is clear(at least two weeks) Put a small amount of teatree oil diluted with water in a spray bottle and spritz on the hair everyday. Tie her hair up so its less likely to come into contact with other peoples hair.
Lice HATE tea tree and conditioner stuns them and stops them from gripping the hair shaft so they come out with the nit comb.
Check hair once a week. I run a nit comb thru my kids hair every time I see them intensely itching just to be on the safe side.

my daughter has gotten lice a few times.I seen this thing in the store called a robie comb.it hums.you run this through the hair like a reguler comb and it magnifies the bugs to it also killing them.have her by a sink while running hot water..hot as you can get it and once you see the bug drop it in the hot water.the comb will stop humming letting you know it has captured a bug.also for the nits if you are having trouble getting them out as i did A cat flea comb works. It really worked for me.My daughter had really long hair and i couldnt go through each strand. The cats flea comb works as does the robie comb.if you have washed everything and sprayed everything have you taken every stuffed animal and doll and put them in plastic bags?this sufficates the bug if any on dolls. They can live on stuffed dolls for like three days i think.you have to leave them tied up in a plasic bag for two weeks.also mayo works.this sufficates any bugs in the hair.leave the mayo in for about 5 - 10 minutes.but try the robie comb and the flea comb..this really worked for me and if she ever gets them again i would deffinitly use the same trick again. :)
the best of luck to ya I know how frustrating it can be!!

YOU have done all the precaution you can do. This happened when my daughter was in first grade, and they keep coming back. I went to school and demanded a head check, there was the problems. A child that her parents did nt care about hygiene's or anything about these children was covered, you have to find the source, treating her hair to often is dangerous for her health. Keep her hair up in a ponytail if she has long hair and hairspray helps some. Even brushing up on this child was infecting all the children around her.Gt that taken care of and my Daughter did not have that problem again.
