I don't think that is true. Alot of christians put atheists down just as much as they put christians down. Everyone needs to just get along and accept others despite their differences. Christians have a right to be christian, as atheists have a right to be atheist, and so on.

I am not an atheist, I also don't believe in a god, but I do respect the rights of each person to believe in whatever they wish, I don't understand why anyone would want to try to take away, or discredit, from another person, a belief system that brings them peace, hope and a desire to be decent loving individuals. On the other hand, I also don't understand why many (not all) people who do believe in a god feel the need to make everyone else believe the same as they do. You don't need to have a belief in a Deity in order to be a loving, moral, peaceful person.
To answer the question as to why I don't believe in a god, I would guess that it is probably for the same reason that you, or others do believe in one, but then again maybe not, I don't believe because I just cannot, a god has never been real to me, has never been in my heart and soul, my parents tried from the time I was a toddler, I tried to believe, it cause nothing but frustration, pain and depression trying to fit in and to believe. Once I looked truly inside myself and found my spiritual self and accepted who and what I was, I was at peace and whole. Is that not what it is like for Christians who come to accept Christ? Why is it wonderful, acceptable and joyous for Christians to experience that, but for those who are free enough and brave enough to celebrate their freedom from religion, it is looked at as being somehow wrong, evil, or unenlightened?

I'm not an atheist, in fact I'm a Christian. I just wanted to say that no one should judge another for what they believe in. Believing in a God that you can't see, touch, etc. takes a lot of faith. It's not something that you can just do, you have to truly believe it in your heart. Which is why we try to tell others about it, because we truly believe and we want everyone to know about it. I'm sorry that some people forget that it's for a greater cause and not just duty that we witness...it's those people that "ram religion down your throats." As much as I want everyone to believe the way I do, I will respect others beliefs and not pressure them to believe the way I do. Even with all that said, I still don't understand how a person could believe that there is NO god at all. But, I guess either way we'll all find out who was right in the end.

Why!? Oh, lots of reasons....I won't go into it. Everything said to a Xian, no matter how reasoable, has an excuse. A lot of times, one that doesn't take reality into consideration..
As far as why do A call Xians stupid, same question turned around can apply. Depends on what you're dealing with. All sorts of ppl with similiar personalities have different views and express them differently. Some of the more reasonable, matter-of-fact types are already in the higher levels if you're looking not to be called names

I have my personal reasons for not believing, but I don't "put down" people for being believers. If you draw strength from it and feel that you are a better person for it, then its working for you. It doesn't work for me. What I find annoying is when certain "believers" develop an automatic hatred for people that don't think in the same vein of thought as them and close any chance at open dialogue. I know that certain atheists do that as well. That is where the animosity derives from.

I don't know about others, but the reason I don't believe is because there is no tangible evidence....If I can't see it, touch it,taste it etc... it isn't real for me. I Just don't have the faith to believe in something I can't see. Secondly is the bad feelings I get each time I go into a church they are passing the basket "for god" God? God needs my money? he is all knowing all powerful but can't handle his cash flow?
If there were a few thousand less followers it would be a cult and shunned by the masses..
as for why I put people down, I try not to, but I get PO'd when the religeous "right" try to push their beliefs on me

I'm not atheist. I'm agnostic. I honestly don't see any proof that God exists. But I don't call people stupid who don't believe the same way I do. Nobody is stupid, they just think differently, and I'm cool with that. Peace!

Not all Christians put people down and not all atheist put people down. One can't generalize because it isn't fair.
I personally feel like I have to "stay in the closet" and not let anyone know that I am. I get dirty looks and cold shoulders all the time...every time they find out. They treat me like I have the devil in me and I must not be a moral person. It is terrible to be the minority in a predominately Christian environment. How many times do you see an isch-something (christian fish) in comparision to evolution fish. Christians are the ones putting it in our faces. No one gives them dirty looks and shakes their heads when they are look upon by other drivers, yet I have had several of those instances because of my symbol. Christians can wear crucifixes to school and I can't were my symbol.
Please don't accuse all of us. There are plenty of Christians on this site dogging us.

Not enough evidence to support the existence of any gods. I put Christians down because they feel that I deserve eternal torment for disagreeing with them, and because most Christians I have encountered has had something negative to say about my sexual orientation. Theists also feel the need to force their religion into my life. Also, I dislike that people waste their lives on religion while doing nothing to contribute to society, it's selfish.

Everyone has their own opinion and no-one should be putting anyone down for their beliefs.
I don't think a lot of atheists do that though...
