Many libraries sell used books. Some libraries give away books they no longer need or have room for, mostly paperbacks. You'd have to check at your local library to know their policy.

Call up the library and ask them. Some libraries sell off some books every month to make room for new books. Some libraries have support groups that collect donations of used books from the public, and then they have sales, and they give the money to the library to buy more books.

Go ahead and ask them!

It entirely depends on the policy of the library service where you live. They are very unlikely to let you buy books that they have in their stock and are popular/issuing well to customers, but they may well sell older books that are no longer needed on the library shelves.

Many libraries have a 'for sale' section with ex-library books available to buy.

the only way to know for sure is to ask at your local library or give them a phone call. They won't bite if you ask them, library staff are generally a pretty friendly bunch, honest ;)

Ask your librarian. Most libraries sell books they remove from their lists but in some cities, they send them to the main library and have sell them for a week or weekend. Since libraries are run by individual cities, your librarian should know if they sell books on an ongoing basis or on certain days. If you have a favourite library book though, and want to buy that particular copy, you're probably out of luck.

The only thing I can add to everyone else's answers is if there are several libraries in your area, you should check with each one. City and county libraries may have different policies about buying used books and/or if and when they hold book sales.

Of possible interest also may be an article on how to redistribute, reuse, and/or recycle used/old books--see source below. There are some novel ideas in it.

Sometimes libraries have big sales of old books but typically they won't sell a book that is currently on the shelves. I suppose if you're not very honest you could check out the book and tell them you lost it then pay whatever fee they give you.

Your library might have a used book sale once or twice a year. Call and ask them about it-- I know my library does.

The library, if it truly is a marginally immediately ahead ingredient, yet then in the different case I merely purchase the e book when you consider that my studying pursuits are literally not all "immediately ahead" and 1/2 the time the e book is appeared at on the library, and getting on reserve lists might want to correctly be stressful.

Just some idea, there's a lot of good price used book at amazon.com. I personally rather buy online, so I can compare the used price first.
