What kind are they?

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/7051/untitledem2.jpg

They are about 2 to 6 inches in length and were in a local lake. I live in Nw Oregon also if that helps.

They have a little bit of orange on their stomach and are brown and green.

We caught like 65 of them, but put them all back, because we could get our licenses taken away if we took something shorter then 6 inches or so.

It's a Yellow Perch ( Scientific name = Perca flavescens). They are in the Family Percidae and related to the Darters, Sauger and Walleye.

They are not native to Oregon, but have been introduced widely throughout North America - their original range was east and central United States and Canada. They are very prolific and considered a valuable food fish in some areas (a favorite of some ice fishermen) and can grow to about 12 inches (rarely larger) in favorable habitats. If the largest in your lake is 6 inches, the lake may be overpopulated by them and stunted - or the larger individuals may be in another part of the lake. Since they are a food fish there may be a "creel limit" on them, but many states do not have a minimum size limit - a 6 inch fish has very little meat on it and would not be worth keeping even if legal.

I can't recall the name, but put it back quick!. It is one of the diminishing food sources of the Spotted Owl, and you don't want to get those owl people riled up again....
