You should exercise every day, and not just to lose weight. Everybody should be doing so. I think the Special K diet is better than the Slim Fast plan, but you could even combine them: Special K breakfast, Slim Fast bar for lunch, Slim Fast snack bar before workout, and then eat a nice salad and some fruit for dinner.

Yes, if you follow it strictly. No extra snacking or anything. Their meals are healthy and beneficial. Just think of the Special K diet. Eat one 100-calorie meal in the morning, then another at lunch, you've only eaten 200 calories for the entire day. Eat an average dinner, which is between 500-800 calories, you haven't eaten even 1000 calories in a day. Of course, it works.
Working out, you should do at least 3 days at 1/2 hour each day of cardio and 2 days of weight training.

If you only eat Special K or Slim Fast, of course it will work. But you aren't going to be able to keep it up though.
Here's what you can do:
Walk every night for an hour. WALK, not run. If you're not used to running, you have build up. DO pilates or swim every other night.
Eat well--make sure everything on your plate contributes to your overall health. Eat in moderation--that means you can still have a piece of chocolate cake, just don't eat a whole slice that weighs 3 pounds!
Don't rely on a get-thin-quick scheme to get you motivated. Trust yourself and you'll do it.

Work out some each day. Running is probably the best for losing weight. Watch what you eat (you must burn more calories than you consume).
You should be able to lose 1-2 pounds per week. Anything faster than that is just water loss.

5 times a week vigorously for at least a half hour each. Eat healthily! Cut out fried foods and bad fats, sugars etc. Eat lots of fresh fruits, wholegrains etc. If you cut out food alltogether, I guarantee you'll put on the weight and more when you finish the diet.

My mom's done both - and they do work. You do have to eat one real meal a day, though (not fried, junk, very little meat and bread). For snacks inbetween eat fruit and veggies, drink OJ and V8, etc.
Work out every day, and walk as far as you can each day. Drink a lot of water and NO soda, chips, candy.

special k works if you really follow it, and slim fast may work but its unhealthy, just eat everything in a smaller portion than you regularly would and in moderation,(eat anything, try to stay off sweets and starch) and you will see a difference, it worked for me I lost 5 pounds in a week.

takinf pills or some kinda magic potion to lose weight isnt exactly the best thing for ur body...why dun u try a proper workout and may alter ur diet to a high protein low carb or go vegetarian for a month...
