Good question. If I had the real answer I would be a rich man! My opinion is that one must set the rules down up front. If you are expecting certain things in your relationship you have to be up front. How else does the other person know what you want and if its what they want? I have seen a lot of people who have the "perfect partner" expect for......
There is no perfect just what you want and what your willing to accept as close enough. However you need to be honest up
front. If your looking for long term, short term, just friends, tell the other person up front and demand honest answers.
Also depending on where you at in life (age) men tend to get to the serious stage latter than women. The desire to settle down just seems to take longer for most men

Here is the fact about men vs. women: Men can produce their genetic material at any given moment at the drop of a hat. Women, on the other hand, are only capable of producing their half of the genetic code a few days out of the month, when they ovulate. So, in order to successfully reproduce women need to look for more of a committed partner, whereas a man can do his thing at a moments notice. Sorry for the boring science, but that's the straight dope on this topic.

I believe that it varies with each person not just there sex. Some people want a lot before they say they are in a relationship and others don't need much. Just depends on how much of a connection they have to the other person I think as to how much they want to have a relationship and that is when they want to define it sooner than the other party.

It's not a question of sex but the person. What I perceive to constitute a relationship differs from that of another dude, and I know this to be true. To ask a question like that on the premises of sex is foolish and most of all close minded.

Read " women are from venus men are from mars" it explains it all. example: when a women comes home from a hard day and wants to tell her mate about it, she justs needs him to listen and be supportive. BUT the man, will always try to put on the "fix it hat" and try to suggest a solution to her problem, then the woman gets fustrated and thinks he is trying to blame her for her day or tell her what to do. interesting isn't it. Same thing with relationships, we are NOT on the same planet of thinking.

not all men and women differ much as to what constitutes a relationship, it's just the way they think, it's their opinions of what a relationship is.

Because men are from Mars and women are from Venus. And that's the truth! Seriously... men normally are logical. And women are usually more on the romantic side. It all begins with Childhood Fairy Tales.

Because men are very simple, and women are not at all, and they think sometiimes that we are more complex. Men only have 4 basic needs food, sex, beer, sleep, if we are not getting one of these we are working towards it.
