I think that my younger dog may have gotten kennel cough recently when we boarded her. I'm not too worried about her though because she is all caught up on her shots but I have another dog that is behind on her shots and I was just wondering if I should go right away to get her updated on her shots or if I don't really need to worry.

Kennel cough is highly contagious...it is airborne so easily transmittable. What people do not know is that even if they get their Bordatella (kennel cough) vaccine that they can still get it. Bordatella is the most common type of kennel cough, but there are lots of different strains of kennel cough and there are NO vaccinations for those strains. Only a vaccine for the most common one has been created. Most dogs are put on antibiotics to clear it up. And keep in mind...your dogs can pass it on to other dogs on walks, at the dog park, etc.

Well the kennel cough shot is like a flu shot they try to get what they think will be out there, but sometimes they miss. For the most part it won't hurt your dogs but they might hack a bit more, but if the one is starting to breathe hard get it to the vet, but they always should have the DHLPP and Rabies shots up to date and the Bordettela if you board again.

Check to see if your dog has had it's bordetella vaccine. Most places that board animals require one and it is to keep tham from getting kennel cough, If she has that is probably not what is wrong. You should take both of them to the vet anyway and have the one checked out and the other updated on it's shots.

From what I have experienced Kennel cough will clear up on its own. My dogs got it once it made the rounds through them and went away. If your worried why not just go to the vet if it helps you feel better even to just be sure.

I would get her into the vet. We had our dog boarded and she was just slightly past due for her shots, and she ended up with kennel cough. It seems to be easily transmittable!

Even though your dog has her vaccinations she could still get bordtella or "kennel cough". my dog did and she was up to date or her vaccinations. i would take both dogs in for an exam and get the one that needs her current vaccinations. sometimes kennel cough can cure up on its own but sometimes it can turn into a respiratory infection among other things. so, take both of your dogs to get checked out.

Both dogs have been exposed by this point, so a vaccine won't do much. I recommend watching both dogs closely.
Coughing that isn't too severe and some sneezing are OK, but please see your vet if : Coughing becomes persistent, excessive sneezing, thick discharge from the eyes or nose, not eating or drinking as much as usual, labored breathing, and/or lethargy.

take your dog to a vet and tell them exactly what you just said they will be able to give the other dog a diagnosis if it has kenel cough. maybe this is good for the dog cause now maybe the dog can get all caught up and be healthy. good luck

You need the other dog checked for bordetella and then given all her shots.
