It means that your remote has a short-circuit, and it's time for a new remote. Try a new set of batteries first to see if the same thing happens again, and if it does, go buy a universal remote!

This can happen when you mix battery types.

If you had alkaline and non-alkaline cells in the remote at the same time then the non-alkaline would have discharged first. At this point the current from the alkaline cells would continue to flow and charge the non-alkaline cell backwards. AA cells are not intended to be charged backwards and tend to get very hot, leak, and destroy your remote when this happens.

You bought some cheap, explosive batteries and should probably get them out before acid burns you.

maybe you inserted the other battery in the wrong way or there is an internal short.
