I have driven a front wheel drive vehicle on ice and snow and I personally found it easier. Its not that it isnt good to drive one on snow, its that the mechanics of traction and braking are different. Here is a site that talks specifically about the differences. Hopefully it will help.

usually front wheel drives work better in the snow and ice than rear wheel drives. a manual transmission doesn't sound like much of an issue to me but then i'm german and so it's normal for me. i'd say go for it, the front wheel drive is something you won't regret!

front wheel drives are great in snow and especially a stick shift is easier to control.

Automatics will not spin so bad. But please listen. Buy a house and your money grows, buy a new car and it evaporates. Good used cars out there. Unless you are a business needing a write off. DON'T BUY NEW. BUY A HOUSE.
