I somehow seem to like expensive wine but Im poor. I have made beer in the past and I believe it to be on par with say Sam Adams but much much cheaper. Their are some wine kits on the market for about $100 and they make 5 gallons of wine. Would the finished product be simmilar to an expensive bottle of wine?

I've made wine using the Mosti Mondiale sterile juice kits and I'm very happy with the results. These kits are six gallons of pure juice (and you have a choice of about thirty varieties of juice). Within a year, you can have wine that's comparable to wines costing twenty dollars a bottle or more.

I wonder if those wine kits include the grapes from which the wine is made. The grapes that go into the wine will have a huge impact on the characteristics of finished wine. The difference between yearly vintages from the same winery can attest to the importance of variable conditions such as rainfall, early/late frosts, excessive heat/cold on the grapes and ultimately the wine.

If you are able to get your hands on quality grapes then it you should be able to make quality wines.

Homemade wine (wine isn't brewed) is usually not so good. Making wine is definitely more of a delicate art than making beer. Beer is much more forgiving. Wine depends on too many other things (like quality of grapes, type of oak you use, etc.). I've had homemade wine. At *best*, it's been barely drinkable (and much better when you are too drunk to really taste it).

If you are looking to have some fun, try making wine. If you are looking to spend $100 on 5 bottles of wine and enjoy them, head to your local wine shop.
