May be some of you have wrong source about Islam.
According to Islam, men and women are different in some ways.
Man should respect woman like when entering door, the man must let the woman enter first. So it's a kind of honour for a man to do those things. Men protect women whoever they are. and also children.
But in some other way like jobs, such as doctors, teachers, they are the same. They have the same right.
Moslem do not see colour and gender. It's a humanity that moslem see.
But in some societies, there is still misunderstanding about this. But I guess all religions see an official relationship between man or woman or what we call as marriage, is a holly thing. They need it to keep it save and warm. Nt only the women who has to respect man, but also man.
In Islam a mother becomes the first, second, third and the fourth people that we have to respect, then comes the father at the fifth place.
Covering head for muslim women is because of some reasons. One of them is They need to cover because the whether sometimes not good for our skin. and skin becomes something that woman need. and also this is God's order.
I hope we all understand about this. Peace

This is a question that is under much debate in the Muslim community, and is the subject of a lot of speculation among non-muslims. The truth is that men have a much harder time controlling their desires than women do, and since women are the weaker sex (only physically), we need to protect ourselves from enciting these type of desires in them. It is really protection for ourselves, as well as the men who look at us. It cools people's baser desires to cover ourselves this way.
No, it's not about men being unintelligent. It's really about wanting to protect every Muslim man and woman from degrading themselves. This prevents a lot of what's called the "wandering eye." How can a man, a respectable man anyway, look at a woman in a rude way if she covers her hair? It is virtually impossible. It makes the man think twice before he even opens his mouth just to say "hello," and even then, he will do so with respect.
And no, that doesn't give them the right to be disrespectful of women who don't cover their hair. I'm a Muslim who doesn't cover my hair, and I am still a good Muslim. The most important thing is for the woman's behavior to say " I respect myself and my body." A lot of women don't cover enough of anything at all, and then what do they expect, for men to respect them? No, in Islam, you must at least cover your body with a loose fitting garmant, so you won't reveal the shape of your figure to the public. And if you don't cover your hair, you should at least not talk to any man, or even look at them. This way, they're much less likely to try to start a conversation. This is still even more protection for the woman. A lot of it is in the woman's behavior, not just her dress.

Women cover themselves not because they "distract" men, but because they ATTRACT men. Men are also taught to dress modestly. They do not necessarily cover the same parts as women because there body is not the same as a womens. The bible also commands for us to cover ourselves. If you look at pictures or movies that have Mary in them, she is covered. She has a cloth on her head....does she not. To answer your question nobody ever has the right to disrespect a women because the are 'uncovered'.

This is a great question! Are we, as men, strong enough to control our emotions and passions? We absolutely are. I was asked this by a friend who said that the way some women dress is an excuse for date rape. I beat him to a bloody pulp. ;) Men can control our emotions. One time I was listening to a friend argue and yell at his girlfriend and his phone rang. Well, when he answered it, he was all normal and calm and even nice to the person: "Yes? Oh hi bro. Yeah, yeah... i can make it. No problem man... it's my pleasure." I was all, DAYUM! But, they're so crazy in Europe... I feel so bad for them.

I agree completely. The idea is also present in Eastern Orthodox churches--women have to cover their heads to worship, so as not to distract men. Of course, what this does is eroticize womens' hair, heads, decolletages, etc. to men who don't normally see these things, so when women are dressed in the Western way around them, watch out!
Also, not all women cover.

women should be modest my dear and you know what? when not even 80 years ago it was was proper for women all over the world to cover themselves, the Muslim knew and know the importance of this and the followers agree and it is proper and correct conduct, the dress code has become not important to the young or the parents and this cult has crossed the ethic lines and it is sad to see the disrespect the women have for themselves really it is sad!

heck, honey. i have been around for many, many years and have seen otherwise intelligent men find everything else that is wrong with the world except for what they do.
although their is some example of wearing a head covering in religion, i dont think God would condemn the woman that i raped, just because i caught a glimpse of her face in public. i think that i would have to pay for that sin when i meet my Maker.
as for what gives them the right? why, that would be radical theology based on their personal beliefs that are shrouded in just enough religion to confuse the weaker of the society.

According to Islam if your wife is continually disobediant you are allowed to beat her, though it does stipulate lighltly. So maybe Islam isn't the best source of information if your looking for rational equality towards women.

Men in general ARE intelligent enough - but we're talking about Moslems, here. Mohammed had sex with a 9-year old child bride, didn't he?
