I can't believe I'm answering a scatologically-related question, but here goes....

The thing that determines whether or not it floats is supposedly the oxygen (and other gas) content within the faecal material. A high level of gas content means that there's an increased chance of flotation. A low level means it sinks. (Note, there was no 't' in that previous word).

Now for the good news : floating is a sign of a healthy colon, that's doing it's work right and is getting that bacteria out of you in a timely manner with sufficient oxygenation demonstrating that you're colon's working fine (sufficient fibre, etc being intaken).

So, pat yourself on the back for your dietary habits and just keep on flushing. And then flushing again. And maybe once more, just to make sure you got all of it. Everrybody likes a clean bowl after all.

Eat less junk food

Drink less soft drink

Eat more vegetables, fruit and fibre

Get your cholesterol checked

Your faeces is floating because it is laden with fat, usually. Anything that is less dense than water will float. I suppose CO2 bubbles are a possibility, but much less likely :)

during the digestion process, the food matter is mixed and churned inside the intestines and also the bacteria metabolizing it. this bacterial activity produces gas. then these gasses are trapped within the solid walls of the poo

I have heard today that if some people who suffer from IBS or a wheat intolerance this can cause it to happen. May be worth checking it out.

Because they are lighter than water, if you eat a lot of fibre that could be the reason.

Usually because you eat enough fibre in your diet, this cause your floaters..its a good thing.
