Only 60% of the US is overweight. I don't think all skinny people make fun of overweight people. Kind of a generalization.

Not all skinny people make fun of heavier people - I certainly don't. I understand that it can be really hard for some people to loose weight and being made fun of is the last thing they need. Some people are just rude and they make fun of overweight people because they don't think about how they would feel or they just have nothing better to do. I do hope that the percent of overweight people in America can go down, because it certainly doesn't make our country look very good (by the way, I'm pretty sure it's not 90%, that's much to high, but it's still definitely not low) but I wouldn't make fun of any over weight people. People need to support and encouragement to loose weight, not name-calling and such, or else it's very easy to end up with an eating disorder.
By the way, making fun of skinny people won't help either. That's just revenge and it will hurt the skinny people as much as it hurt the fat ones.

Well, Robin as I just told my children when you start a question from a flawed, untrue, or otherwise invalid premise you can only get those types of answers.
On the other hand if you'd like to know why a certain person makes fun of another person, look at the specific details.
In some cases any person who mocks another has their own insecurities they are trying to mask. That or they have other reasons for wanting these people embarassed.
I personally think that the person who mocks has fear of being mocked, and by picking on a "weak" person they lessen the chance they will be attacked.
Why do you ask this question? Was it something you saw on TV or a magazine that triggered this?

I am skinny. But I dont make fun of other people. I kind of wish I was a little fatter because I am tiny, but no matter how much I eat I am still the same!

Well depends, i think those stats maybe off a little. Now making fun of people can be fun, at the same time wrong. I guess to answer your question people do it to make themselves feel better.

Because the media and TV & Movies are on the size of skinny ones!! Furthermore, they make fun of fat individuals to reinforce their mind not to become fat since nowsaday America is becoming fatter with so many diseases (diabetes, heart disease!!). It is not nice to do that but, that is how human behave because most of us do NOT think before we say something!!

Very big generalization indeed...however, I understand what you are trying to say...
As with any other situation in which one individual feels it is necessary to pick on another individual, it is most likely because they aren't secure about who they are themselves.
We shouldn't start making fun of skinny people. That's sophomoric and not solving anything.
Nobody should make fun of anybody, period.

I don't make fun at them, I pity them.
Being fat is a factor that almost everyone can control and yet most don't. It is pathetic to see people loading up boxes and boxes of cokes and chips in a supermarket parking lot, eating themselves to health deterioration and death.

I'm skinny, and I don't make fun of larger people. Lots of people already tease me about being too small, so go ahead - what's one more?. It goes both ways.
