First of all being Catholic is not following the Bible. Being a believer that Jesus is God's Son and He came to die for our sins is following the Bible.

Second, the Bible says honor them. You can honor them without doing everything they say. If you are under 18 you don't really have a choice as to what church you go to. But you do have a choice of how you believe.

That's not Dishonoring Parents to seek God.
But you said following the Bible. Now I'm confused.Following the Bible and being a Catholic are 2 different things. If you truly follow the Bible as I did when I was a Catholic. I found that the Bible does not contradict Itself but the Bible contradicts Catholicism.

A book can be written about the differences alone.

Just a little example Matt 23:9 Jesus said "And call no man your Father upon the earth: for one is your Father , which is in heaven.

1 Tim 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless the HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE,
4. ONE THAT RULETH WELL HIS OWN HOUSE having his CHILDREN IN SUBJECTION with all gravity
5. For if a man know not how to rule his own house , how shall he take care of the CHURCH OF GOD.

HUNDREDS MORE if you read the Bible, you must question , when I told my priest how was Peter not married , when Jesus healed his mother in law and we were admonished old and new testament to flee from Idols etc.

My priest told me that the bible was not his highest authority, Ir was the holy FATHERS in Rome.

That's when I quit.

The Bible has two testaments - the Old and the New. The Jewish use only the Old - the Catholics seem to use mostly only the New - the Protestants use both, and do follow the 10 Commandments (so do most Catholics). Nowhere in the Bible does it tell you which religion to follow - it tells you to follow the 10 Commandments, read the gospels, etc.

It is good that you are discerning about the Catholic Church.

You are obviously taking a lot in consideration in regard to your parents. They are to be honored and if you are of age to decide for yourself, I see no reason why you should not at least investigate the Catholic Church further.
There is a lot of anti-catholic propaganda out there and maybe your parents have read or heard something along that line.

Continue to pray and talk to good practicing Catholic about it.

I came back to the Catholic church 10 years ago. And I am so glad I did. It helped me through some very hard times. I do'nt know what I would have done if I did'nt have the graces that were given to my by the sacraments.

I wouldn't agree that being Catholic is following the Bible...but the point is, if you have read your Bible FOR YOURSELF and have come to the conclusion that obeying your parents would be disobeying God; you have to obey God.
This doesn't mean you don't honor your parents. Respect them and their wishes, (remember, it's all about the attitude) and if you can do it peaceably, do it!
God be with you. Pray, pray, pray before doing ANYTHING.

lemme ask it a clearer way

The Bible says,
worship God and
honor your parents

which command you obey if our parent say not to worship god?

I think,,, clearly...the first and greater one, worship God

as far as your question ...being Catholic... and while you are under your arents roof.... thats a tough one... and does the Bible teach against it ... thats a can of worms not likely to unravel here... and the Bible may not support all traditional Catholic views although it would support many stunning beliefs held by protestant and Catholics

in that case... I would not give a simple answer... and thats more one for the individual concience

By honor your parents the Bible means to give them respect and to give consideration to the advice that they can give you, it does not mean to blindly follow everything they say. By taking into consideration what they say to you, you are honoring them and in turn obeying the Bible.

I pray that in this situation I would have the strength to honor God above all else. That might mean that I trust in God and disobey my parents when their commands are not aligned with the guiding truth of the Holy Bible. When this is done for God's glory, you should have nothing to worry about. I would turn to the teachings of Christ Jesus for guidance.

Think of it this way: Live your life in a way that will bring your parents honor. Parents aren't always right, about every single thing, even Abraham had to ditch the traditions of his parents to follow God, but I think he lived in a way that would have brought his parents honor.

I'm not catholic, but that's my 2 cents.

comedy_joker_11,
You live your convictions.

I would have you see a parable that Jesus told:
Matthew 13:24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

There are a few renditions of this parable. The one I lean to is that the Wheat is the truth. And the tares are the lies mixed in with the truth. Instead of rooting up the whole field of wheat, as you would do if you tore out the tares, God let's them grow together. But only the true parts are eternal, like the wheat in this case. The tares are to be burned away, which are lies.

So whether you are Roman Catholic or not, there may be some tares mixed in your field of wheat. Your teachers who teach you false things will help to sow the tares. Know that the wheat is the true word of God, and that you can trust Jesus to be the mediator and trust him to prove His word. Know that the traditions of man make void the word of God, and those traditions supply you with plenty of tares, if you are not careful!

You must lean upon the Spirit of Truth and Understanding. See you in heaven.
