In certain circumstances fines can be lodged against a term of imprisonment provided the magistrates courts are informed of your detention. The fines will run concurrently to the existing term of prison and when you are released the fines no longer remain. This is to encourage the offender to go straight and not commit any further offences. I do not know what would happen to fines in any civil courts but they can be lodged for criminal ones.

In certain cases only. The court order may prescribe the amount of fine or complete prescribed term in prison. This is only in civil cases and not in criminal cases, generally.

Unfortunately you are still liable for your fines. there are good samaritans in this country who offers to pay fines for those who are in jail because they could not genuinely afford to pay.
