Yep, a secret. I can understand how some of the other answers are plausible, but 'a secret' has been the historic answer.

guy. 4 ft in the morning (youth) is a toddler crawling. 2 ft in the afternoon (person/center of life) is strolling. 3 ft in the night (previous age) is an previous dude with a cane. Six ft in the dark is somebody with a walker!
