When I read the bible, it seems to me that Jesus never put himself above us. He even said, "the works that I do you shall do also, and even greater works." It seems to me then, instead of a rigid doctrine, Jesus was offering us a way or a path to become like him - in other words to Be the Christ. What do you think?

If you believe we can't be the Christ then I would be interested in knowing why especially given that we were created in the image and likeness of God

And did not Paul say "Let that mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus." What I'm saying here is that perhaps the mind of Christ is a universal aspect of God available individually to each of us - Jesus being a great example of one merged with this universal consciousness.

The 'Christ' is the same as the 'Buddha' - both terms to describe the state of being when one realizes God (direct experience of reality called enlightenment). Jesus of Nazareth was a man. Siddhartha Gautama was a man. They both had a very very deep enlightenment experience which is open to all of us. The experience shows their reality as completely non-dualistic; literally, there's only One thing in the whole universe and the concept of individual consciousnesses, individual people, bodies, etc. is seen as illusory. Once this is seen, they become symbols of that state of being; with Jesus, we call it the Christ. With Siddhartha Gautama, we call the Buddha. If any of us were to experience the same thing, we are then the Christ, the Buddha - same exact as them. Important to understand here is that no one actually 'becomes' Christ or Buddha; our real state of being is what it is but becoming AWARE of it is the issue (and this awareness is identified as 'becoming' the Christ or the Buddha).

No we can not become the Christ because the word "Christ" means annointed one of God.
We do not have the annointing of God Himself, therefore, we cannot and will never become the Christ.
Secondly, Christ was sinless. In order for us to be the Christ we would have to be sinless as well. 1 John states, "If we say we have no sin then we deceive ourselves and the love of God is not in us."
The only way to be the Christ is to be absoluterly perfect and we are not because we are sinful and have been from the day of birth.

Jesus is a one and only

People can become LIKE Him in some respects. (like having more holiness) .. and not other respects (like omnicience)

Jesus is from eternity and God the Son.. and in that sense sent from the Father to be Messiah.. in that sense no one else can be Christ in exactly the same way as Jesus, like dying on the cross... he is a one and only

Christ means anointed and christian means little Christ...and in a sense Christians are annointed and in a sense can be like Christ to someone In that sense they are repressenting Jesus and pointing to Jesus in a way ever clearer and greater than John the Baptist the greatest prophet up the then could

He didnt put himself above anywone, he put himself below peole when he washed they feet... but God raised him up and gave him a name above every name that at the name of Jesus every knee would bow and every toung confess Jesus is Lord to the Glory of God

He is Above all powers!!!

There was only one Christ, and Jesus is it. But the word Christian means to be christ-like. It is a way of life. A person who dose not have Jesus in their life is nothing with out Him and the word Christian proves that. If you take the name Christ out of the word Christian, you are left with the letters IAN. Those letters stand for I am nothing. this is because they are with out Christ.

There is only One Messiah, which fulfilled the Old Covenant an established the New Covenant.

Mormoms believe that all (men) not ladies can become their own God of their own planet.

The Bible and Tradition states that we are not to place ourselves before or equal to God.

I think jesus had the idea that we should love one another. It was other men that decided to build a belief system around it and make it dangerous. An idea can change and reform and get better, beliefs are rigid and unchanging, people are willing to die for them, and when they become outdated in their last dying breath they take a lot of people with them.

Yes, you could be right there, you know.

In translation, Christ or Christos actually means "anointed" and there were many things in the biblical texts that were anointed - vases, pillars, people - it was a common practice to do so in that culture. So yes, you or anyone else can be Christos, Christ or anointed. Go for it.

Isaiah 14

12 How you have fallen from heaven,
O morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!

13 You said in your heart,
"I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. [c]

14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High."

15 But you are brought down to the grave,
to the depths of the pit.

John 15
5"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

We cannot become Christ, but we can be like Him - if we follow in His ways. He is the perfect example of how to live.

To be a christian is to be "Christlike" Christ was without sin, we are not. We were born in sin and sharpen in iniquity... Babes we can not be our own type of Christ. Also He is Christ because he came to die for the sin of the world. We are not expected to die for anyone but rather to die daily (dropping of the Adamic nature) in order to be more Christlike.
