I really need all of these books and they are VERY expensive to purchase on my own...but the smell makes me sick!!! Someone help :)

I can't guarantee this WILL work, but it's worth a try: Try sitting them in baking soda. Baking soda's great for killing a lot of smells.

Another thing you can try is...put them in a container with wadded up newspaper for a couple of days. The newspaper absorbs the scent, at least it works for me with containers that absorb food scents. I'm not sure whether it will work for smoke or not, but it's a cheap easy thing to try.

air them out by opening them and putting them outside and maybe spray a little air freshener on it.
