If their hand is hanging down just slowly slide your hand into their hand and position your fingers. They will get the picture and in return grasp your hand accordingly.

Walk close and bump hands a couple times...then just leave your hand there a bit too long...or catch their outside fingers and give them a light squeeze...that should get you started!
That's how I always did it anyway...then when you look at each other and laugh...you just grab hands....!
