Like if she really loves you.

Not really. I certainly don't. It is an attention that I did not solicit or particularly welcome.

(I had a girl once steal an engagement ring from the jewelry store she was working at and show it to friends while telling them I had given it to her and we were secretly engaged. It ruined my reputation for months afterwards because of the snide way some other girls used it in various associative ways--even after the ring-thief was arrested and taken from our school in handcuffs. Hey, what did I do other than just be alive in the vicinity of a kook, you know?)

I sometimes emphasize with a girl if she is good-hearted by nature and I try to help her through her misplaced affection--but feel bad, myself? --No. Why should I? I didn't ask for the problem she's created for herself, and I certainly am not standing on the "Here-Free-Take One" display stand.

That depends on whether or not he has compassion and a sense of social respect.
If he is an idiot, then, no.
But I am a guy, and have been turned down in the most rude ways. I could let that taint me and say, "Yes, cuz girls do!!", but I won't.
I will say it works on both sides that some do, and some don't.

I feel bad turning her down if she genuinely likes me but I just don't feel the same attraction. Usually in that situation I try to be brutally honest about it rather than letting her have her crush....I figure it's kinder to be cruel rather than giving false hope.
I don't feel bad if I sense that she's just using me for something... then I just feel mad and duped.

That happened to me when I was 13.. At first I didn't think much of it, and then it just haunted me for years and years. Later I had to find her again, just to tell her that I was sorry for how I treated her and that I wished I had been nicer to her. By that time she had pretty much forgotten about me and the whole incident.
