There is no set timetable to trimming your hair. If your hair is in good condition and has no splits and the hemline is even you don't need a trim. If your hair is otherwise in good condition and you have just a few splits, seek them out and trim them, one at a time with sharp scissors, preferably ones you use for hair, only. (This is called Search and Destroy.) Stylists will tell you that you have to trim every six to eight weeks. That is simply not true. And, when you do need a trim, a tiny 1/4" or microtrim will probably do the job. If you have a lot of damage, you will need to trom more away and a bit more often until the damage is gone.
If you are growing for length, remember that hair grows an average of 1/2" per month. YMMV, depending on genetics. If you go in and have a half an inch trimmed every six to eight weeks, you will not see any growth. It will just be trimmed away. An occasional tiny, tiny trim or a dusting, where the trimmed hair looks like dust may be all your hair needs.

I trim my hair every three months but I don't know the exact period of time you should do it.. I think it depends in how fast your hair grows, if you color your hair and if you use straightners or curlers or any product or process that may cause any damage to your hair

Well, it depends on how long you want it. If you want it long, then you should trim it maybe 6 months to a year, or longer if you want it really long. As for the rest of the lengths of hair i still say 6 months to a year, well also depending on how fast it grows.

Depends I suggest somewhere between 5-8 weeks to prevent the damaged ends from spreading upward

Once every two months usually works but you can tell if your hair needs it more often than that.

The standard answer you will normally get at a salon is "every six weeks." In fact, there's a salon by that name in San Francisco! :o)
