If people don't want to debate and don't want to hear my ideas that's fine. In a public forum you must, however, expect to be exposed to views that you don't necessarily agree with - that's called freedom of speech. The fact that someone is an Atheist should be of no concern to anyone of any religion if they have enough belief in their faith. Provided abusive or emotive language is not used I see no reason why a rational discussion should not be possible except that many people do not understand the questions and are too ready to take a general remark as personal abuse.

It's not insulting, just offensive. If I believe something, and moreover desperately WANT to believe it, I will immediately reject any criticism, logical dismissal, or questioning of it. It's human nature to be defensive in regard to such questions, because changing one's mind about the existence of God takes away perceived immortality, creates immediate tension in one's family and community, makes one's life lonely by comparison, and means that years of divine-inspired actions, words, feelings, and experiences have been a misunderstood wad of mundane living.

I believe truth -- well-researched, impartial, probability-based truth -- is the most beautiful virtue the natural world has to offer, but I can understand why many don't embrace it. It hasn't got the promises, rewards, or love that a spiritual life offers. So no, it's not an insult, but your questions threaten to lay waste to the whole of their lives and afterlives.

God is all things I believe God is like an exploding star system and we are the stars. does that make sense? I hope it does.

People dont like questions because it makes them lose thier faith in the religion they belong to. so they resort to petty insults and some nasty comments. I get youre going to hell alot, but I just remeber that they are the lost and not me, because I realize that organized religion is an insult to the brain, oh and a relationship with Jesus is still the religion of christianity:)

God is everywhere. I know you have heard that before but what can I say, He is. Why do you question the Christian faith. If you are an atheist, why do you care so much? Are you looking for answers? Every question that you might have, you can find the answer in the Bible. Just a thought.

No, it is not an insult. If Christians want to witness to the non-believers, then they should be prepared to be challenged. Not everybody is easily swayed to accept writings of fiction as fact.

If somebody promised you that Enron will re-emerge -- stronger than ever -- would you be skeptical, or would you invest immediately?

If a believer has any real substance to the beliefs, then there will be proof -- and not this standard line, "I know, because God lives in my heart."

P-R-O-O-F, please. I mean, didn't most of us believe that Santa Claus comes down the chimeny to leave presents for good little boys and girls? It sure sounded good at the time, huh?

Questioning faith is not an insult...it is a test. And if I cannot defend my beliefs, then I have failed the test.

Ridculing someone for their faith (not saying you do) IS an insult.

Examples:
Asking "The Bible says xyz, but it also says abc. Explain how both can be true," is a GOOD question of faith.

Asking "How can you be so stupid to believe in Hell," is an insult.

I think it can be insulting to question peoples faith. I'm an agnostic and not affiliated with any religion but I respect people have a right to believe what they want. I think it's fine to ask questions because that's how we all learn and you don't have to agree but I know from personal experience when somebody "questions" my own personal beliefs I can get really fired up!! Good question, thanks for posting it.

The only insult is when they try to give a rational reason to why they have faith other than how it's application brings merit.

For example, "I have faith because the bible tells me so." seems to imply that at one point or another the person was indoctrinated and never actually "chose" their faith.

The most rational answer to why a person has faith is because they choose to.

I think attacking (which is what questioning is) someone's faith is the most insulting thing in the world. So f-ing what!!! It is important to the rest of humanity that people have realistic cosmologies to live their lives around, and if it's so damn important to them, they should want to get it right. Shame on them and their parents for perpetuating magical lies. If real life isn't adequate, quit reproducing.

no it's not ... if you just question it though. but if you personally go up to them and go on about how god isnt around then it is. if someone comes up to you and asks you how come you are an atheist then you have the right to debate with them. you also have the right if it is bought up in a conversation. i am somewhat atheist and somewhat not. it's hard to explain. i dont have that much faith in him though if he is real. nothing has ever happened to me to help me out.
