There are many things that you can do from altering his diet (removing sugar intake and high fat foods...) to changing his daily routine. Is he constantly in front of the TV and does he ever really get out to play? What is his sleep routine? Regular bedtime each day as well as a regular wake up time and regular meal times. Kids need a set routine and an energy outlet.
Just please do not buy into the fad (yes fad) of pumping kids full of Ritalin just because they are energetic and happy. Are you willing to take the risk that 20 years from now they find out about a serious side effect from these meds. Society have become so medication dependant that we have altered what a real kid should behave like. All we do is give things a name such as ADD or ADHD and medicate without guilt.
I don't wish to criticize and this is not meant as a reflection on you as a parent but perhaps there are some parenting courses/agency's out there that can show you some tricks of the trade of parenting that may help with your sons rambunctiousness.

Love your child and have fun and please try everything else first before meds you will alter his personality. I have seen it many times.

Something else you may try is peanut butter. My son is also hyperactive all the time and he is nearly 3 yrs old. His father's family has a lot of ADD and ADHD and the doctors think that it may be hereditary in his family. I talked to one of the teachers at my older son's school that has been there forever and she said that at the school they have found out that peanut butter and sometimes (in VERY SMALL DOSES) coffee helps children to chill out a little. I dont know if this will help you but my son gets about half a teaspoon of coffee in his milk on days that he is way to hyper and nearly every day he gets either crackers with peanut butter (saltine crackers, not the ones that you get in packages at the gas station) or a peanut butter sandwich. These are what most of the kids in my husband's family use rather than medication because we don't know what the side effects may be later on in their lives. These are just suggestions and may not help with your kiddo. Kids do need a lot of sleep and if they dont get enough they can be very hyper from lack of sleep and trying to fight it off. Also if he is getting a lot of sugar (even refined sugar found in most foods) that can cause him to be really hyper. The exercise and time outside are also good ideas. Hope this helps!!

Besides eliminating all sugar intake may want to try coffee.. is not a stimulant for adhd or add kids. Works in the opposite direction for some unknown reason.. maybe because of the modified wiring ot the brain.

I couldn't agree more. Cut the processed foods, such as mac n cheese, some cereals, soda AND cut the sugar. Keep in mind fruit juices still have sugar as does milk. So, stick to water or try some sugarfree alternatives. Good Luck!

My mom had this problem with my brother. She got good advice from a doctor. She took him away from all processed foods and red die #40 He settled down well. You may reintroduce these foods one at a time after a while and once a month.

Try as mentioned before, no sugar....but in addition, take away the caffeine and sodas. No Coke/Pepsi, Tea; even "Orange" sodas have caffeine. Sprite, 7UP, and Kool-Aid all contain sugar, so the best bet will be water, milk, and sometines juices (also sugary).

Less refined sugars and more health stuff like fruits and vegetable, even if he says he doesn't want to eat em.

Also more exercise will wear him down, like previous answer a trampoline may help.

My kid's doctor says if a kid is hyper, one of the reasons is that he is not getting enough sleep. A 12-hour sleep everyday is good for kids.

try limiting the sugars in your kids foods. just limit his liguids to water, milk, or 100% juice (not the fake stuff). and foods, give him fruits, and veges.

i have a 3 year old niece, whom i spoil all the time with a lot of goodies (i'm her uncle, i'm suppose to do so). she too is very hyper. my sister tells me to not to give her too much sweets.

He's probably getting too much sugar in his diet. Cut out all sweets with sugar and watch him improve.
