I have had her for two weeks now and she is 7 months old. From the first day I brought her home I set a timer and bring her out every 30 minutes. I feed her once in the morning and once in the early evening. After she eats I wait 15 -20 minutes and bring her out to go. If she has to go potty when I bring her out she does go outside. But if she isn't outside she goes to the carpet and pees. No indication to me that she has to go. At first I would not yell or anything, just put her outside and clean it up. Now, a couple of days ago I started to swat her on the butt and bring her outside right after I caught her. I would then tell her "potty outside". That is the phrase that I have been using on her whenever I take her out. When she does go outside I praise her a lot, she knows because she always comes straight to me when she is done.
I am trying not to be frustrated, but we rent this house and she pees a lot. Any suggestion or just patience? Please help!!!

I think you're on the right track. I'd suggest a couple of things. First of all, when you bring her outside to go potty, have her stay out there until she goes. No playing or distractions. She'll start to get that that is the reason why you took her outside. Secondly, I'd give her some positive reinforcement when she does go potty outside. Just a little, "good girl", some petting, and a piece of a puppy biscuit. If you add this and stick with a routine like you already have, I'm sure she'll catch on.
I've heard somewhere that it can take up to a month for some dogs to become housebroken, so be patient with the little one.

New house, new owner, nervousness.
I would not swat her, you will only make her more nervous defeating your training, she will come to dislike you.
Keep going with putting her outside, what you can also do is give a treat everytime she pees outside, a dog bickie or such and really rev up the praises.
It will take her some time to get to know your property, where the door is and what is expected of her.
Try to confine her to an area where there is no carpet for the next couple of weeks till you have her completely trained.
If you catch her in the process of peeing, immediately get hold of her by her collar and take her outside and say potty, then give a treat and praise when you have her out the door. Do not punish, dogs do not respond well to punishment.

First, labs can be very distructive. You need to crate train your puppy. This is not cruel to the dog and will save a lot of headaches. When we got our last lab/shepard mix we had the same problem - she was six months old. We got a doggy door - end of problem. If you live in an apartment you can creat a litter box from anything the right size and use kitty litter.

The way you are handling it is fine just be consistant. If you leave for any length of time during the day you may want to consider getting a large (depending if you have room) crate to keep her in.. Also, she may still be able to smell her urine on the carpet. Make sure its really clean. If her urine is just dribbling out and it seems like she cant hold it, take her to the vet it may be incontinence. Patience and consistency is key. Good Luck.

I'd have a vet to check it out. However, I once had a black lab. It was a baby when we got it and it would tear up anything it got it's paws on. It was so hard to train not to do things or to do things. But, once it got older it was the best dog i had ever had.
