I tend to watch my kittens before naming them and then I sort of play a round or two of Word Association and then I play around with that til I'm happy. A thesaurus is an excellent help (which I personally like a little more than Baby name books... but baby name books are excellent for more traditional-type names)
I had a Siamese a few years ago and couldn't get "me see" out of my head. Her name turned into Mesee/Meseemeese/Me-smee (lol when said quickly).
Another time I had a kitten named "Birdie" because he liked perching on my shoulder lol
And I named my bob-tailed sweety "Rogue" because my first impression was that he seemed shy but sneaky :)
Have fun naming your little girl

Had a black cat named Snowball once. Let's see, Gypsy, SEEAYTEE (CAT). Had one named DAC (dumb azz cat). Had a dilute calico named "puke that moves" (probably won't work as well on a black cat). There's always "Salem" or something with a Halloween theme maybe. Older people names are good too. Gracie, Ethel, Rosie. Name her after your grandmother? Just look around, you'll find a name that fits her personality.

I have recently come across two girl kitten names I love.
One is Melissa. From the Bible and means "lioness of God" Melly would be a cute nickname.
The other is Zariel which I think is from the Hebrew and means "lion princess" Zari would be a cute nickname too.

I love the other person's suggestion of Jasmine. Don't go past a 2-syllable name for any animal.
I also think it'd be cool to make a name off of Bastet (Bastet was the name of the Egyptian goddess with the cat head... http://inanna.virtualave.net/bastet.html#Image). I don't know if I'd go for "Bastet", but maybe "Bassie", or "Basa". :-p

Hi there...here's a website that has a huge list to select great kitty names. http://www.crazyforkitties.com/names/cfknames.shtml
I was thinking since you've asked everyone for their ideas on Yahoo Answers how about a variation on Yahoo such as Hooey (Yahooey). :-)

I always liked Ebony. It's another way of saying black.
Good luck with your new kitten
