Ugh!! I think I have roaches in my house. Are there any roach sprays or anything else that I can use to get rid of them that WON'T hurt my cats? I need something non-toxic to cats.

I would try OrthoMax HOME DEFENSE which can be found at any home improvement store like home depot. You can spray inside around your base boards and windows and make sure your cats are not in the room at the time. Let it dry and then do another room, that way you have a place to put the cats while you spray each room. This stuff is not very strong scented and and has enough in a container for several laps around my 3 bdrm house. Then you probably want to spray around the out side if you're in a house. Also I keep the cat food in a plastic or metal container thats airtight. Roaches LOVE that stuff, trust me. I have this issue myself sometimes and the benefit of having a cat is watching him beat the crap out of the little suckers before i kill them...lol.

Roach Motels and Black Flag are the best. Spray under the Refrigerator, behind wall clocks, under the stove (caution if it's Gas there may be a pilot light on). They like the warm from motors and heat sources of any kind. Use the Motels boxes where you worry about you cats getting near. Check and Change them often. There is a book at the library, a very big book, called ROACHES. Check it out. Then if your in an apartment, the whole building will need to be tented and bombed for Roaches to eliminate them completely. Check with the landlord. in the meanwhile Read the directions on the spray and roach motels and use often. Roaches are hard to get rid of. Good Luck, I hate Roaches!!!!

Most sprays and such that you can pick up at retail stores are pet friendly. I wouldn't lay out any type of poison or anything like bait traps that the cats could get ahold of though. The thing about roaches though is that they are not that easy to just "get rid" of. I've heard people say a roach can ;live for days with no head and that roaches would be the only thing to survive a nuclear blast...they are tough, tough little guys. The other problem in trying to get rid of them is that there are way more than you realize. It is a pretty safe assumption to say that for every 1 you see - there are 100 more that you don't see. They live in your walls, in your ceilings, in your furniture (yes they can get into your couches and such and also into your electronics.....they can be anywhere) The absolute best way to get rid of them fast and completely is to have professional pest control people come and treat your house - they have capabilities to get where you can't just with a bottle of Raid. When this si done I recommend packing up all your stuff like you are moving, I mean everything, put it all in a moving truck and set off some of those fumigating "bombs" inside the truck, close the door and don't open it again for a few days. This way the exterminator will get the ones in your house itself and you will kill any that are in your stuff.

I used to have that problem and I was able to get rid of them. First thing I would do in buy bombs for you home. It should kill most of them, but not the eggs. The next thing (absolute must) is to buy combat roach killer. It comes in a tube. You find inconspicuous locations like under cabinets, back of cabinets, behind fridge, baseboards even. After I did this I never had any problems. It is gross but I started finding dead roaches in places I had never seen them. But this also means it is killing the ones you don't see as well. Gross! I have a cat and a dog and they never got sick or anything. Good luck.

I've heard that burning Cayenne pepper in a potpourri pot acts as a natural insect fumagator. Below are some instructions on making a similar setup. Also sage is disliked by many insects, you can try hanging bunches of garden or wild sage around the house.

"Place a tablespoon of red pepper on a bottle lid. Place over sterno, or candle-type food warmer, and light the underneath candle to heat the lid. Allow the pepper to fume, and close the room. Repeat as often as necessary."

Boric Acid. It is available at any grocery store or Walmart. It is inexpensive and won't hurt the cats. Just put it anywhere the roaches might crawl.

Roach Motels--the kind that use sticky stuff only.

Anything that uses sticky stuff rather than poison, actually.

Or you could get your house fumigated while you and your cat took a vacation at a pet-friendly hotel.

my dad in law used this yellow peanut butter looking stuff (not actually peanut butter!) and took the plug suckets off the walls, put it around the edge and replaced the sockets. they have never had them since - in 10 years! because they are in the walls apparently. Look for it in a hardware store, or maybe look online, google roach deterrant or something? i can't stand em, hope you get rid of them!

Look at a local store and see the warnings on the back of the can concerning animals.
