As you probably know by now, I'm not tech-savvy, so forgive me if the question seems lame, but I really do want to know. Thanks in advance for the answers!!

DVD-R or DVD+R are one time recordables. one shot deals and that's it

DVD-RW/DVD+RW are multiple recorders much like an old floppy disk? you can record on the as many times as you need.

the +/- difference is either that certain recorders will only use one or the other. some older ones that is. the newer genereation DVD drives can use both. the older ones were finicky and would only accept one or the other. reason being is that older DVD players would read certain ones. so you had to match the +/- accordingly. but nowadays you don't have that problem since practically all burners and players can read and write to both discs.

the fact is that the two competing technologies use diverse codecs. No single employer "owns" DVD and the two technologies have their "champions". DVD+R/RW is likewise according to CD-RW technologies. DVD+R/RW is supported by utilising Sony, Philips, HP, Dell, Ricoh, Yamaha, and others, and has those days been advised by utilising Microsoft. DVD+R/RW isn't supported by utilising the DVD communicate board, however the communicate board has no skill to set industry standards, so it turns right into a industry-pushed concern DVD-R/RW replaced into stepped forward by utilising Pioneer. according to CD-RW technologies, it makes use of an identical pitch of the helix, mark length of the 'burn' for archives, and rotation administration. DVD-R/RW is supported by utilising the DVD communicate board, an industry-extensive team of hardware and utility builders, and laptop peripheral manufacturers. The DVD-R format has been standardized in ECMA-279 by utilising the communicate board, yet this could be a private usual, no longer an 'industry' ISO usual like the CD-R/RW purple e book or Orange e book usual.

Not much! The -R DVD is the original format. The +R is a competing format developed by Sony. Some players only play one or the other.
But most new players play both. Some people think thar +R is a little better, but I cannot tell the difference. By the way, the -minus is not a minus,
it's a -dash.

well the rw just means rewritable, first of all. that just means that after you burn it, you can add or delete files.

now, dvd+r was the original dvd format (with mpeg2 videos, that is-- but dont worry about that for ur stuff). anyways, a few years later, some guy living in his basement designed dvd-r, which is the newer and better format for dvds. unfortunately it s still not counted as an OFFICIAL format for dvds, so you wont find that for like fox dvds... but they record in mpeg2, so it doesnt really matter. anyways... dvd-r is better, at least for videos it is as the other guy sed

Hmm. . .I had the same question a few months ago for a poor Wal-mart employee, but unfortunately I didn't get much out of his response. However, I learned that the discs had something to do with the computer reading on a certain side (like - being the left, or + the right [or visa versa]). I'm not sure, really. . .I just trusted him. . .

2 slightly different formats, now burnable on one burner.
I use both and find no difference in usability. But prices, when buying them can vary. I go for the cheaper.
I usually stay away from the RWs of any type, as they have been very trouble prone.
