Who's taking whose jobs?
By The Denver Post

Among the worries driving this year's immigration debate is a fundamental fear that foreigners are stealing jobs from Americans.

Are immigrants, particularly illegal ones, taking jobs that unemployed American citizens could fill?

New research indicates that isn't the case.

Business representatives, backed up by President Bush, argue that Americans "don't want these jobs".
The Pew Hispanic Center, a respected research group, has released a new study that seems to indicate immigrants don't hurt other workers, at least when the question is viewed at a national level.
To all of those that think that the illegals are taking your jobs, do you dispute a national survey? This is not the first survey of it's kind to have proven that they are not taking jobs away from us. Where is your proof that they do? How do you come up with proof to base your opinions on?

You will never sway them of their beliefs that they take jobs, or that hispanics are lazy, which is a contridiction in its self. It still surprises me though that no matter how many times someone or I trys to point out that they don't all work for less than minimum wage, they just ignore it. I know alot of illegals that make damn good money, more money than alot of middle class, and its not because they stole the jobs. Its because they had the best skills and knowledge of what the job requires. They do take classes, they do know the safety laws and thats why many are favored even over american workers.

You don't think illegals are stealing jobs? What would a company HAVE to do if they were removed from the workforce? PAY a living wage..... Why has the minimum wage remained unchanged at 5 bucks and some change? Do you honestly believe the construction, roofing, landscaping, food service industries would STOP?
Americans want to afford a family and earn a living wage. Illegals shack together and take millions of jobs at rock bottom pay. Your survey doesn't use logic. If it asks whether a citizen would flip burgers at $5.15, the answer would be no and thus your poll assumes the job wouldn't be filled. Obviously logic tells us that's wrong. An American would fill the position at $9.00 and the burger would cost forty cents more.

The main beneficiaries of illegal aliens are the millions and millions of home owners throughout the US. We want or need help building or hauling or moving. We use them to take care of our elderly and mow our lawns, trim our trees and clean our homes. They paint and reroof and anything else we need.
The Slumlords make out, the agricultural industry makes out so you can have cheaper food. the small Auto and body repair businesses, small construction businesses... the list goes on and on.

There is a cost and a benefit. We all get the benefit of lower prices, and the cost is not so much taking jobs, but keeping the overall labor costs down for all the lower income working class people. But of course we are doing a much better job of that ourselves by quashing minimum wage increases and breaking unions. We are supporting more harm to working class America than illegal immigration.

consider this:
we had a war on alcohol in the 1920's and lost
we've had a war on drugs since the 1960's and lost
we've had a war on poverty and lost
we can't stop prostitution or gambling

the market demands these things and the market will always get what it wants. (don't fool your self, we are all 'the market')

now we want a war on immigration??????

Personally, I think this is just one more little issue that the Munchkins can wrap their little heads around...
Not the huge federal debt
Not the huge budget deficit
Not the huge trade deficit
Not the 2600+ people who have died in Iraq nor the 15,000+ wounded.
Not the explosive growth of terror recruits
Not the environment
Not the lackluster wage growth and opportunities
Not the skyrocketing costs of health care
Not the skyrocketing cost of oil
Not the skyrocketing cost of education
Not the diplomatic disaster going on in the Middle East
Not the rise of China and India
Not the outsourcing of Jobs and loss of manufacturing
Not the value of the dollar or potential change of petro-dollars to petro-euros
Not Social Security
Not that median income can no longer buy a median house in most of the US
Not that pensions are disappearing
Not the huge personal debt
Not the lack of personal savings
Not the huge and growing disparity between the upper 20% and everyone else

What we can wrap our heads around are issues like immigration, gay marriage and flag burning....

Yes, we can stand in righteous indignation about these little emotional issues, because we are not intelligent enough get our heads around the real issues. Instead we pretend that the politicians are working on it or worse, we blame them for it… We are the government. It is our job to demand what issues need to be addressed, and look at what we’ve chosen…

I am not a supporter of illegal immigration, but lets get a little perspective on what is really important.

Thank you for giving me a chance to rant

Hey, We got PLENTY of people sitting on their fat Arses collecting welfare who are perfectly able to work but claim they can't find a job. We just need to make them do something for what they get. There you go...kill 2 birds with one stone

Then add in the 80 some-odd hospitals that have had to close their door because of force free care to these Immigrants. I say we send the bill to Mexico and take land as payment. We will eventually (fairly quickly) OWN all of Mexico and then they can stay there and still be in America! Problem solved!

PROOF? Well I say try it and it will prove itself! Never know until you try.

Yeah , I belive alot of people said they would not do landscaping, or feild work for 5.00 per hour. Also they are American citizens so they will need to pay taxxes so there is another expense. The problem is the wages the employer pays. Americans will do the jobs, we have done the jobs in the past .... we will not do them for less then minimum wage .

If the wages weren't so artifically lowered by illegals, Americans might do the jobs.

Americans would want the jobs if all the illegals were kicked out and the wages for those jobs Americans supposedly "don´t want" went up.
