I am a terrible cook, but I have been designated steak-cooking duty for the night. I've never broiled a steak before, so if you could give some ideas, I'd appreciate it!

Also, it is a very thick steak so should I put it in the oven and leave it, or should I turn it every so often?

What kinds of seasonings can I put on it?

Thanks!

Okay, take the steak and put it on the broiler pan with some aluminum foil lining the pan. I would preheat the broiler first and take the steak and place it on the pan with just a little salt and pepper. That will be very easy and simple and also be tasty. If you have time to marinade them, use some red wine, salt, pepper, garlic, Dale's marinade, A1 has some recipes on the back of the bottle or anything that you like can be made to marinade. It really depends on your taste. All I know is if you have some thick steaks, you should use some meat tenderizer on them and let that sit for a while and then marinade them for as long as you can to make them tender. The broiler can sometimes make the meat tough.

2 beef flank steaks; *
1/2 cup lime juice
2 tablespoon oregano leaves; dried
2 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil
2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
4 cloves garlic; crushed

* Each flank steak should weigh between 1 and 1 1/2 lbs.

Place beef steaks in shallow glass or plastic dish. Mix remaining ingredients and pour over the beef. Cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours, turning occasionally. Set oven control to broil. Place beef on rack in broiler pan. Broil with the tops about 3 inches from the heat until brown, about 5 minutes. Turn beef and broil about 5 minutes longer. Cut beef in thin strips across the grain of the meat. Serve with tortillas and guacamole if desired.

this is actually a homemade recipe that my mom came up with...its super easy and soooo delicious!! however, its not a fast recipe but one that you can start early and leave in the oven without worrying for a while

you will need....
steak
salt and pepper
a large onion
a large can of tomatoes
dried oregano
about 3 cups of milk (2% or whole works best)

take your steak and season it with salt and pepper on both sides. place it in a baking dish thats has taller sides than the steak itself, so if you have a thick steak, you'll need a tall baking dish. cut up a large onion into rings or wedges and scatter around the steak (try to keep them off the steak itself, just put them around it). open a large can of diced tomatoes in tomato juice and pour around the steak over the onion. sprinkle salt, pepper, and dried oregano over the onion/tomato mixture. pour about 3 cups of milk over the entire steak and the veggies around it. the milk should almost cover the steak so you may need more or less. place pan in an oven at 350 degrees for 2 to 3 hours or until the milk has evaporated/been absorbed by the steak.

the steak will come out extremely tender moist and practically fall apart in your mouth.
