Novocaine is not actually related to morphine or the opiates. It is an artificially synthesized plant alkaloid derivative. It is a chemical.

It is a local anaesthetic called procaine.

It is different from Lignocaine/Xylocaine/Lidocaine but is in a related drug class.

It is well tolerated and rapidly metabolized. Very few people are allergic to it.

It does have some side effects. They mostly occur in people who lack the enzyme that breaks it down. This enzyme breaks it down in the blood stream and in the tissue fluid, so it dissipates quickly in most cases.

The most serious side effect occur if a large dose of it reaches the heart, where it can have "nerve blocking" effects and cause irregular heart beat (arrhythmia) - sometimes with fatal outcome.

Other milder side effects include, itch, tremor, anxiety ...

Most of these things settle as the drug is metabolized.

What are you talking about? Novocaine is an opium derivative. It doesn't contain "chemicals" - plus novocaine is hardly used at all anymore. Mostly Lidocaine or Xylocaine are.
