Thanks "Drink more Powerade" I know this and you can go through ALL of my Yahoo Answers to see that I NEVER diss the Muslims either. Oh and Mr. Curate I asked this question because I found out more about this hate-filled lady and realized that many of the questions here about "Fundamentalist Christians" are asked assuming that she is a representative of them.

Ms. Phelps Roper is the spokesperson for the Church(of 100 people) who are picketing the funerals of G.I.'s.

To the last few of you that insist that God and Christians bear hatred for Gays or anyone. John 3: 16 "For God so loved the WORLD....." not the christians or the "good people" whoever they are.

We all understand that she and her family are mentally ill. Unfortunately, she's not the only one giving christians a bad name. But wow, what a whack-job!! Makes you wish she had picked a different religion, huh?

I didn't, but I've never heard of this Shirley Phelps Roper, or her Westburo Baptist Church, so you have left me very confused.

Save us from this crap. Shirley & Fred Phelps tell it like it is. They do not pull their punches, unlike so many other Christian people who want gays to believe that they want them to get saved. What a bunch of baloney.

I know full well that no gay person is really welcome in a Christian church. I have seen bigots in Pentecostal and Baptist churches gossip, slander, ridicule, harrass and make life miserable for members who are gay and who tried to "recover" and become accepted as they tried to follow the teachings of Christ.

The love of God: what a concept. At least with the Phelps gang, what you see is what you get, and I would trust them a hell of a lot more than the smiling Christians who pretend that there is a welcome mat at the front door of the church!

Westboro Baptist Church are Christian Extremists. A lot of Christians would do well to remember that when they criticize Islam as a religion of hate simply because of a few extremists.

Who is Shirley Phelps Roper?

I think they are exactly representative of 99.9% of baptist and most Christians. Anybody who has been paying attention has to agree. From the derogatory posts on here toward homosexuals to cynical politicians using them to win elections, the ill will and blind hatred toward homosexuals is pretty clear.

The Westboro Baptists may use more coarse language but the sentiment is the same: We want to see homosexuals in prison because they offend us and make us feel uncomfortable.

Bigotry is bigotry with or without the lipstick, it's all the same. Most Christians simply believe they should be able to take away someone else's freedom and happiness because homosexuality makes them uncomfortable--and their religion is just a convenient excuse for them to do it.

And please, spare me the it's a sin crap. I see plenty of people sinning in gluttony, greed and adultery but no ones passing a constitutional amendment to stop it.

Yes this is a good example of exetremists. comparing all christians to Westburo is like comparing all muslims to osama bin laden.

Roper and her church think they speak for all of Christendom, so it's important for Christians to clearly and publicly distance themselves from such extremists--including Rev. Foot-in-Mouth himself, Pat Robertson.

i think if you mentioned fred phelps, their psychopathic 'leader', more folks would know who you're talking about-he's been profiled on network TV a few times...they even disrupted the funeral of Ryan white, the boy who got aids from a blood transfusion...they're a nasty little band of inbred hatemongers...
