Ready or not, we will get it when our times are up.

It's a good question. When my father died I took comfort in the fact that he'd lived a very complete life, and had contributed to this world, and was clearly ready for it to end. It's tragic, of course, when someone dies before having had that kind of opportunity.

I prepare for death by living life to the fullest, and I fully intend to have no regrets when the end comes. I've done quite a bit, and I think that my life's story would be a fairly interesting read. Even if not, it pleases me.

Obviously the Christians among you prepare for death by doing things that you believe will give you a better "life after death", and I don't see anything wrong with that either (though of course I believer you're mistaken). Whatever makes you feel as though you've lived a good life.

I wish I could say yes, but I am scared of thought of it and not for the reason you might think. I have consistent nightmares where I am in a hospital bed and just passed away, my wife, daughter and son are standing beside my body and daughter is begging me to hug her. I can see all this because I am in soul form in the room. This is why I am scared of death because I don't want to leave my loved ones behind, I am not scared because I think I should live for ever or anything like that just afraid of the pain my family would go through.

No, and I hope I'm never ready for death. I hope I die desperately wanting to live, believing up until everything goes dark that it isn't really happening. Because if I get to a point in my life in which the idea of having my skin tickled and tiny hairs raised by the physiological excitement of existing, or seeing another fleeting image of the world, or tasting another slice of the air around me, are no longer appealing - then I'm probably already gone. It's amazing how hard the human body fights to live; how hard we ourselves fight to live. Even when all causes have been lost, all hope is wrung out, and so forth. Sometimes we're even willing to kill ourselves just to end life-threatening emotional pain, which really amazes me. We're all so hung up on the idea of being ready to die - but how you can you possibly say, "Okay, I'm done with experiencing light, sound, touch, smell, taste, thoughts, feelings, other humans...I'm finished"?

I don't think anyone is ever really "ready" to die, but I do think you can get a point in which you no longer fear it.

My will is in good order and insurance paid up, but I'm not ready to shuffle off this mortal coil just yet. I still have things to do and places I'd like to see. Most of all, I'd like to see my grandchildren graduate from college, fall in love with someone nice, and walk down the aisle.

No and yes. I have not seen or experienced a lot of things I want to, nor have I tried to follow my dream. But sometimes I actually welcome sweet death, like when I'm at work.

I would say that overall I am ready, just not asking for it.

Right now? Am I ready for death right now? Well, no. I've still got work to do before I can move on. My son's not ready for me to go yet.

Yes, for me dying means going to the biggest and best party in history, and that is heaven. If God decides that I have fulfilled my purpose here on Earth, then I am ready.

Yes. I am thoughtful in words and deeds. I have lived authentically and honestly. Death is just the other side of the door of birth.
