People drive way too fast in my neighborhood (I live in Carrollton, GA). I'm afraid that one of the kids on my street is going to be killed by the fast cars. The speed limit is 25--most cars driving on my street go at least 50. Who do I need to contact to get a speed bump placed on our street?

Many cities have a neighborhood planning division where you can get things like this addressed. For your city, you can find info here:

A quicker, yet short term solution would be to ask the police department to patrol your street more frequently.

Finally, I would advise against speed bumps, and instead ask for things like traffic circles, diversion barriers, etc. Speed bumps cause all sorts of problems for many different types of vehicles, and can cause a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed to lose control, potentially being a bigger threat than just a speeding vehicle.

You will probably cut out a lot of runaround and red tape if you start with politicians to whom you can point out that they have their cush little position due to votes like yours, but at a lower, more directly functional level, like a council member or local representative. Depending on how determined you are, it could get down to circulating petitions and such. Good luck!

you can request a speed survey and once they determine that the average speed of cars is over the speedlimit, then they will either put another stop sign or a speedbump to slow cars down. It takes about a year.

contact

The city..the streets division or whoever maintains the streets in your town..

id also get a petition going with everyone on the street..the more people you have saying Yes they want one..the more chance of it getting done.

you could also notify the police dept of your concerns..sometimes they will monitor the streets activities

Call your local city hall. I'm sure you'll have to go through tons of channels before they tell you that you can't have one.
