Sit ups DO NOT get rid of belly fat...Sit ups are good for muscle..but the best for that is to do the bicycle style situps (Lay on the floor, put legs at 45 degree angle and pedal your legs like you are riding a bike). To get rid of any kind of fat, including belly fat and also increase your cardiovascular health, the best thing to do is aerobic exercise. Anything that increases and sustains the increase in your heart rate for at least 30 minutes. (Dance, biking, jogging, fast walking, rollerblading, jump roping, etc). Also as a female you are more than likely not going to have a perfectly flat stomach. Healthy women typically have what is known as the baby pouch. It is an extra storage of fat around the midsection that is there basically in preparation for childbirth. Just another of wonders of womenhood!

Sit Ups

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you (5'2, 100lbs), and I have a little belly. Personally, I'm too lazy to get rid of my belly (and besides, I kinda like it), but sit ups should be perfect. They're not too aerobic, and they target a specific area. You shouldn't loose much weight anywhere else doing them.

100 crunches in the morning and before you go to bed. They aren't painful to do and in a month, you'll notice it will be firmer in that area. if you can, rent one of those tummy flattening videos. They are very helpful and the exercises only last no more than 15 minutes.

You need to reduce you carbohydrate intake and increase your protein intake. Increase your water intake and decrease or even quit the caffeine intake including carbonated beverages. I highly recommend crunches, leg lift and side-benders with weights to tone up your stomach. Additionally, if you are not physically active, then you need to increase your aerobic activity like light running or brisk walking.
