I bought a 20 pound multi region off amazon. Never had any problems and it plays regions 1 to 3 and dvd copies. Plus, it is small and light weight.

Just had a look on amazon now and it has dropped in price by 2 pounds! Bargin!!!

They can last, but are obviously not as reliable. In my opinion, go for a well-known brand, but a pretty cheap model, say a Sony or Samsung for 50 or less and they won't let you down. Otherwise, get a 20 quid player, but you might get disc problems constantly or poor backgrounds, but you wouldn't lose much money and might be able to get a refund anyway, but the first option is the best bet. You don't need the ones with 120gb hard drive for it to play DVDs.

I bought one for £250 a few years back and it was rubbish. Would play anything other than region 2 DVD's and had to be chipped physically to get it unlocked. On the other hand I paid £29 for one from Asda and it plays everything and anything. Had it almost 3 years now and its still fine.

Value for money, a cheap one may not play all modern DVD's and yes, is more likely to break. My advise, cash in for a more expensive brand name... amazon.co.uk/.com will have some very good offers,

If £20 is all you can afford then go for it, but if you can afford better why put up with crap.....Ask yourself ....how good can it possibly be for £20. I would hang on to the £20 till you can afford a better one..... if you buy cheap, you usually finish up buying twice in the long run
