Start reading labels. Eat foods with mono and polyunsaturated fats (these bring down the bad cholesterol and raise the good), don't eat foods with partially hydrogenated oils (especially in boxed foods such as crackers, etc and sweets..though some are getting better. These oils improve shelf life of foods but are HORRIBLE for choleserol), Eat nuts...almonds, pistachios, pecans, brazil nuts, cashews (light or non salted) are the best. For breads and pastas choose whole wheat (but make sure it really is whole wheat, some say they are whole wheat when it is actually bleached white flour)..1st ingredient should be whole grain, whole wheat or the package should state heart healthy, should limit your intake of carbohydrates, but the whole wheat will help some, drink AT LEAST 8 glasses of water a day, get some exercise (even moderate like walking).

It could be hereditary, in which case there's nothing you can really do to bring it down except take medication for it.

If you're a junk food junkie (and you can still be that while being a vegetarian), then you're going to have to cut out the junk food. High fat content will drive up your cholesterol more than anything, so watch what you eat very closely and check the nutritional information on any packaged food you buy. You'd be surprised how much bad stuff is in some of that food.

If you are already a vegetarian, the only way to bring down what your body is making will be drugs, probably a statin. If you will take fish oil geltabs, that will raise your good cholesterol, which will help.

Good Luck

obviously you're not exercising or eating tons of salt with those 'veggies'. find out the break down of good and bad cholesterol. you need a better diet and more exercise. that generally will solve the problem....

hmmm, some people have geneticly high cholesterol, but if its so high that you have to see a cardiologist, there is more in your diet than veggies.

Eat fiber, oatmeal, stay away from cheese, mayo, EXERCISE!
