Really curious as to the response on this one...
How many out there think that the works of Tolkien; the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, etc, are Satanic in nature or come from the Devil? Such as what people say about the Harry Potter books?

Heh. Just a little, pretty meaningless hypocracy test on my part.
As Will and others said.. Tolkien was a devout Christian himself (which doesn't keep me from loving his books.)

Since Tolkein was Catholic, I would say the opposite. If you read the Silmarillon especially, you can see the parallels between his faith and his books in the first few chapters.
As a Christian, I find the books very good. For the record, I also find that the Harry Potter books are edifying for Christians, and many others will agree with me. The following website makes reference to both LOTR and Harry Potter in a very intellectual way.

Although I have heard people complain about the HP series, I can't say I have heard that regarding LOTR. Maybe it's because Tolkein's Christianity is more well-publicized than Rowling's. Someone started a rumour that Rowling belongs to a coven, but she actually belongs to the Church of Scotland. Most people who make an issue of these things don't really do their research.

Actually, whatever people think, it's originally written in the spirit of the complete opposite. Tolkien was very devout, and these books were his allegory of humanity's constant struggle to keep faith in the face of advancing technology. You can find dissertations about it on a number of Christian websites, but here's a ref from the relatively neutral About.com:

No they're not. By watching end of The Return of the King, we find out that the story was documented by Frodo.
Seriously, there's no way it's Satanic. LoTR is a great story, and Harry potter was made to be appealing to children.
Those who can't stand works of fiction are the only ones complaining.

Both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are (very good) fantasy books. There's nothing evil or demonic about either of them.

I’m Christian, and I think they came from a genius author. Of course I wouldn’t practice witchcraft or wizardry as a Christian, but I can certainly enjoy a good story of a battle between good and evil.

MorelOrel,
That's funny in a way. Because they were a witness to me! I would be kinda interested in finding out why those people would say that they were satanic.
I read those books so many times and loved them everytime. If they say that because they tell of magic in them, well maybe they shouldn't read them. If it wouldn't bother you to read them, then read them.
What I wouldn't give to read them again for the first time!

It's just fantasy. All n-f books are just fantasy. None of it has anything to do with the devil.
It's the ones who claim to have been written in the name of a supreme being that we need to be concerned about.

No, I don't. I think people just look for the devil in everything.
They aren't allegorical. They aren't metaphorical. They're great pieces of fantasy literature. Any self-respecting adult should be able to see that.
