It depends on the shelter, and whether or not you want a paid position. Most I know of will let people under 18 volunteer.

Depends on what state you are located in some states require you to be at least 15 with permit and 16 with permit

normally 14 or 12 but where i volunteer you can be as young as 10 but a parent or gaurdian has to be with you all times if less then 14

well, you can go to your local shelter and ask.
most of them would allow younger than 16 to volunteer.
it's good that you want to contribute at such a yooung age.
this will definitely help you to grow up to be a responsible and caring person.

I started working in one when I was 10... but... Make sure that you know that you don't get paid... you can volunteer but you don't get paid.... I did it cause I wanted to work with animals..
