I always use a refridgerator crust when making homemade pot pies - for a different twist on things, don't use the top crust to cover, use mashed potatos with cheese - it's yummy!

You can definitely use a pie crust recipe for a pot pie! Omit the tablespoon of sugar, or whatever it calls for, and a little extra salt for the savory. Also try using puff pastry...this is good if you are just topping the casserole off...it wouldn't work so good if you lined the baking dish with it.

I made a family-sized chicken pot pie for the first time last week.. I used a pre-made refridgerated pastry crust.. It came out wonderful! Hubby and the family have asked that I make it again! I guess that confirms success!

Traditionally Pot pies don't have a bottom crust, it is just a top crust. And it depends on what you want to put on the top, could be anything, mashed potatoes, bread dough, puff pastry, crackers- whatever you feel like!

YES. If your pie crust recipe happens to call for sugar, leave it out or pickanother recipe. But yes, it'st he same. Here's my favorite:
Pate Brisee
2½ cups all purpose flour
½ tsp + dash salt
1½ sticks cold unsalted butter, in bits
4 Tbsp. cold shortening
Ice water
In large bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in butter and shortening until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Add 2 Tbsp. Ice water and stir; add more water sparingly as necessary to form dough into a ball. Dust with flour and chill, wrapped in wax paper or plastic wrap, for 1 hour. Makes enough for one double crust pie or 2 single crusts.

Yes you can use many different types, but easiest is to buy a frozen pie shell for pot pie.

not always. it depends on what kind of pie crust you use. if you use the "pastry" crust then it's perfect for pot pie. don't use the gramcracker crust...make sure to read the label...i used the gramcracker one once...GROSS!
hope this helped.

you can use regular pie crust, but I think it tastes better with flakey puff pastry. The frozen pepperidge farm puff pastry tastes yummy and is easy to work with.
