Emergency contraception may be given to a minor without parental consent.

I just read an article that stated this was true. I can't beleive that my child can go and get medication of any kind without my knowing about it. What if they have an allergy or bad reaction and I don't know why they are sick.

I'm not against Emergency Contraception, I'm against any minor being given prescription medication of any kind without a parents knowledge.

To the one who asked would I rather have a pregant child.....

Yes as apposed to a dead one because they had an allergy they didn't tell the doctor about because they are too young to know better.

TO REPEAT:
I AM NOT AGAINST THE PILL, JUST IT BEING DISPENSED TO A MINOR WITHOUT CONSENT.

Okay one more edit:
Change parent to an adult that you live with....Just so some adult knows what's going on if there is a reaction to the medication.

I think it's wrong. You are responsible for the well-being of your child on the one hand but then some doctor can give them prescription medication that you don't know about. I think the doctor should be financially and legally responsible thereafter. But of course that won't happen because doctors bury their mistakes. This country is very confused and seemingly hell-bent on usurping parental authority to the point of being absurd.

I believe this country is absolutely falling apart...it should be against the law for these clinics and doctors to do this. The liberals will argue that it's better then having a million pregnant girls out there, I do not agree with this. It is just a mask so people don't have to deal with the real issue and that means talking to your children about sex and how to conduct themselves properly...I honestly believe this emergency pill is really for all those liberated women out there who don't want kids and aren't mature enough to just use protection. And it's also for the liberated married women who insist on having affairs. But by no means should it be given to a minor without parental consent...what i don't understand is if a school nurse can't give your child an aspirin without your permission, how can this go on? what's next, lowering the drinking age to 16?

I think in certain circumstances yes it should be available, there were girls in my school (young parent opp. program) that were kicked out as soon as their parents found out they were pregnant. Ideally a parent child relationship should be open enough to talk to the child about sex and b/c BEFORE the child needs the morning after pill, but that's not always the case. I have gotten the morning after pill before and my parents were in different states than I was, obviously I wasn't the most responsible teen in America but my parents split up when I was 14 my mom told me she just couldn't be a mom at that time and my dad remarried and didn't want me to live there, I lived with my aunt who was not my legal guardian because my parents didn't put me in her custody I asked to live with her because I was living with friends, there are circumstances in every situation and not all of them are the same. If I would have had to had consent from my parents what do you suppose I would have done. I know I should have been on b/c but I was a 16 with no parents and no one who cared, I tried to find love in the worst possible places and it's unfair to assume that every girl has a good life and she can talk to her parents, or has any for that matter. I don't necessarily disagree but I don't agree either.

Emergency contraception can be given to minors w/out parental consent because minors have sex sometimes, no matter if they're the age of consent or not. And if they have sex against the law, they won't want their parents knowing. They will only get the contraception if the parents don't know about it. If this law didn't exist, there would be way more pregnant and STD-ridden minors than there are.

I don't think teenage girls should have parental consent to get birth control, emergency contraception pills, or abortions. It is none of the parents' business. Yes, the girl may be a minor, but the parent can NOT force the girl to do something she does not want with her body. If she wants to have sex, she can. If she doesn't want to get pregnant, she can use EC pills. If she DOES get pregnant, and does NOT want the child, she CAN have an abortion. HER body, HER choice. The parent can not do anything, and it is not their business.

It's NOT your body, it's NOT your choice, it's NOT your business.

That is like saying : "I can have sex with my daughter if i want to. she's a minor. she has to listen to me. Her life is my business and my choice".

No. It's not.

Yes, Emergency Contraception can cause side effects, but your daughter can always comes to you for help if she gets sick. So she'll have a trip to the doctor. That's not a big deal....

Would you rather her come to you with 10 grand children?

Also, if your child made the decision to have sex (OBVIOUSLY without parental consent), they should be able to make the decision whether they want a child or not...

Think about it.

i think that it's good that this is happening because many parents will overreact. it is kept on record, and if there is any kind of reaction or allergy somone will know what is going on

That's wrong. Just taking your child and giving them medication that they could be VERY allergic to. They need to have YOUR consent, it's just wrong...

SERIOUSLY IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT MAYBE YOU SHOULD TALK TO YOUR CHILD!! NOT ALL CHILDREN LIVE WITH THEIR PARENTS AND I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG.

TO EACH IT'S OWN. AS LONG AS YOU MAKE IT CLEAR TO YOUR CHILD THAT YOU ARE RAISING THEM AND NOT THE REST OF THE WORLD CALM DOWN YOU DEBBIE DOWNER!!!!!!!!!

LIFE IS NOT LIKE A MOVIE AND THERE ISN'T ALWAYS A RAINBOW AFTER THE STORM. SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED A REALITY CHECK!
