I'm going to let you in on a little secret. The reason that you can't get a "deal" on a camcorder or digital still camera or a PC or a PS2 or an XBOX 360 and many similar products is because there is very little profit in them. I sold camcorders for years and honestly, most camcorders had maybe 15 to 20 points of margin in them. Some were as low as 5 points! So, a camcorder that costs $1,000 might have a cost of $800 to $850.
If a retailer is willing to give you 5-10% off, take the deal. They are lucky to be able to pay the overhead costs of doing business when they sell them that cheap.
