Hello everyone
Before I commit to buying a new amplifier, I just wanted to make sure that the amp that has Dolby Pro Logic EX (Pro Logic IIx) written on it is compatible with hardware that outputs with the older, Dolby prologic II?
Thank you.

Dolby Pro Lobic is an encodement that is used on liscenesed product. If your equitment decodes the latest versions of Dolby Pro Logic it will also decode the other liscensed versions.

Keep in mind though, this feature only truly is an advantage with DVD's and product with Dolby Pro Logic on the label. If the video is encoded with THX audio, the pro logic decoder on your amp is inneffective.

Try to find and amp that decodes as many sound encodements as possible.

Coco 2591 hit it right on the mark. I have a receiver with Dolby Prologic IIx. It is just a 6.1 or 7.1 version of Dolby Prologic II 5.1. The two work with each other no matter what. DPL II works with two rear speakers where as DPL IIx can spread the surround sound out to as many as 4 rear speakers. In other words, instead of having 2 seperate channels in the back, you can have as many as four in the back if so desired. All of the above work with any stereo source; LP, tape, VCR video sound, you name it. After you learn how to use it (which is very easy), there should be no problems at all. The manual that comes with your new amplifier should explain all of this. Or better yet, go onto the web-site of the brand of amp or receiver that you are considering and try to download and look at its instruction manual. That is what I did to clear up this and some other concerns before buying.
