No not really, it happens all the time. It is an easy way for someone to get off the hook.

And this has what to do with cats? Anyway, it depends on their motive for telling you this. Maybe they didn't respond to your advances and you failed to take the hint so thats the route they went to get through to you their lack of interest. Its hard to say w/o knowing the whole story. I have told that story before to keep random idiots from hitting on me w/o trying to be rude. Its better sounding than "I'm just not into you."

I had a friend who did this constantly, but you have to understand that sometimes there's a deeper psychological reason for this lie. Maybe they need a little support from friends and others. It's actually quite sad.

Of course, if someone purposefully lies to you it makes you mad because it can be hurtful. But, they may just be trying (ineffectively) to actually protect your feelings. Say.... if you like a boy but they tell you that they have a girlfriend (the lie) it might be because they know that you like them but that they don't have the same feelings for you -- so, they invent the girlfriend rather then have to tell you: "Thanks for liking me in that way. I'm sorry but I don't feel the same about you."

Yes. I would ask them why didn't they tell me. I don't think i would talk to them after I found out because they couldn't be truthful.
