when people say "don't believe in God believe in youself" isn't that kind of self centered?? Not trying to judge I just want folks opinion. I'm not better then anyone, this is just simply my thoughts.

I'm not saying you shouldn't have to work b/c God takes care of you, I'm just saying you really think you have what you have b/c of you? You don't think the Lord blessed you with your childeren, with your job, with your life? I know not alot of people believe what I believe, I'm not trying to change anyone. There is not one thing I can say to you to change your mind, as you can not say one thing to me to make me change mine. Thats alright, we can still live in peace.

No, I find it sad. "I love you. I want the best for you. I have a place prepared for you."
"Sorry, I don't believe in you."

I don't know that I would consider that selfish, but maybe a little rude. Nobody should be telling you what to believe in. I am an athiest, and I hate having christians preach to me. I would imagine that your situation is just as irritating. Maybe it is self centered - thinking thier way is the only way.
If belief in God makes sense to you, go for it - just don't expect me to. This country was founded on the priciple of religious freedom.

I find it rude, self centered, idiotic, and flat out ignorant. Yes you should believe in yourself, that leads to great things. But believing in God, leads to the greatest things. Its not a matter of if your loved by everyone or if you think your the greatest, I mean self confidence is helpful but without God? What would you be?

If you don't believe in a higher power, the only being you can trust to change your life is you. No one's going to do it for you. It's self-centered yes, but if you don't have a religion, the self is the focus of life.

It's not really selfish, but very sad that they don't understand the graces of God.
It's like watching a person with an arm injury cut their arm off saying, "Don't believe in doctors, you have to diagnose yourself, and operate on yourself" ... only later they find out that the arm injury could have been managed with a splint.

I find it very selfish.. For with God all things are possible. People might have good lck on this earth and not be christians but when they die their luck will run out, unless they are saved right before they die. As for Christians life may be hard but "GOD" will never give you what you cant handle.

Yeah, it's very humanistic. I would much rather believe in the Power of Almighty God than the weakness of puny me.
You can talk to some people till you're blue in the face and they still won't believe.

Isn't attributing everything to God self-centered on God's part? If everything is because of God, then children dying, women getting raped is because of God too. You can't say God only is responsible for the good in your life without acknowledging that He is responsible for the bad.

sorry, but god doesn't make me go to work everyday, take care of my children, put food on my table or anything else for that matter. I do all of this myself. Therefore, I believe in myself

No it just there way of saying that they should take matters into
their own hands and not depend on God for everything.

What you see as "self centered" most of us understand to be realistic.
Since there is no god who else are you going to believe in?
