good luck! its kinda funny seeing ppl posting volleyball tips. if you're trying out for a college team u obviously already know how to play. lol...

all i can say is give it your all. i wish i could play for my college team...but when your college team is the defending champs in their division for 4 years, competition is crazy. i was a really good setter back in high school...varsity captain, team mvp, first team all-league, and all that junk. came to college and these guys blew me away.

i had the chance to play for the junior team but ended up not doin it cuz i pledged a fraternity and didnt have any time. and i really miss volleyball. so i just wish u the best of luck. if u give it your all you wont have any regrets about it. well...everyone says that but yea...you'll be extremely sad if u dont make it. so the answer...just make the damn team and get on with your life. hahah...

Deinfitely be confident, set your goal and go for it, dont let anyone intimidate you or stand in your way, and do it because you want to!!!! Good luck here are some tips:

Tips on Serving

A simple float serving technique can score you aces. Simply toss the ball so that your hand contacts directly on the serve. Although you won´t be able to have complete control over its action, contacting the stem makes the ball behave erratically in the air. That erratic motion makes it harder for your opponent to pass, thus scoring you more aces.

Tips on Blocking

Keep your eyes open at all times. It´s not easy, but it´s important. If you miss, work hard to pick up the flight of the ball as quickly as possible after it goes by. This will tell you what your next move should be. Make sure to pike, push the ball forward and down, so it is less likely to dribble down in front of you. Keep your hands ball-width apart, it´s like having a third hand up there! Know your opposing hitters. Call them out to your teammates, for their information and your own. The farther outside the ball is set, the more likely it is to be hit angle. Stay home and cover the angle, rather than following the hitter outside.

Tips on Spiking

Right from the beginning, making a proper approach is the key to becoming a great spiker. So think about making your beginning players, and those players who can´t seem to get it together later on, do air spikes everyday as part of their warm up routine. Have them get back to the 10´ line, make their 2 or 3 step approach, depending upon which approach style you prefer, and go through the entire motion, including a high reach and follow through. Every day, their bodies will begin to develop a muscle memory of the proper execution of the approach, and players will begin to experience more success.

I would suggest asking your P.E/Gym teacher. But, to start you off....
Make a fist with one hand and cover it with the other. make sure you have a strong, firm triangle. This is pretty much the upper body bumping position. The swing for a bump is from your belly button to your chest/shoulders. Just give it a little power.

Setting may be a little harder to tell you over the internet. Put both hands above your head, make sure they are open hand and thrust them up when the ball comes.

Spiking is a more aggreesive approach to the ball. Depending on whether you are right-handed and left-handed.. Hit the ball with your right hand if you are right handed and vice versa. Smack it down on the other teams side.

Serving is kindof tossing the ball over to the other side. You have to hold the ball with your left handed just even with your chest/stomach(I'm pretending your right-handed) and with your right hand, make a fist and bring it back behind you, kindof underhand, and come through into the ball. One of the biggest misktakes people make is throwing it up in the air and hitting it. Dont do that. I just taught you underhand serving. i wouldnt try overhand serving for a while!!!

Rules...hmm...Dont hit the ball out of bounds.
you have 6 people on your team. on the court at once. So you only get three hits on one side. at a time. so lets say the other team serves, you bump it to a teamate, your teamate bumps it to the setter ( or the person who lightly tosses the ball over the net) and the setter makes it over. Good job! But if you have to hit the ball 4 times or more, sorry youre out of luck. The other team gets a point. :( Also, you can not hit the ball twice in a row. If you bump the ball, step back and a teamate has to hit it if it didnt go over. Then you are free to hit it again.

Like I said, talk to your gym teacher. Volleyball is starting up again! Maybe you would have fun being on the team. :)

Let me jsut tell you that they are not what you are probably expecting. I had a week of hell and i was in good shape for my body type. I had played volleyball for 4 years before that and it was absolutely nothing like what i was excepting. You need to be at your best to make it through that week or however long it is. But I will tell you it was a great workout even though I didn't make it on the team. I felt good for actually putting my time into it. It won't be a "if i feel like practicing i will" it's more of like you need too or you won't make it. But good luck and have fun playing!

Wow. Congratulations! It is a really exciting time. My suggestion to you is HUSTLE! Impress your coach by having a great go getter attitude and a willingness to learn. Don't think you know it all b/c there is so much to know and hopefully you have a great coach who will teach you a lot. When I played we had triple sessions and it is quite difficult. Drink a lot of water and eat smart so you have a lot of energy. Also, if your knees or anything start to hurt, take it as a warning sign! You don' t need an injury early on....trust me....you want to be tough, but I learned about warning signs with a career ending knee injury! Also, when you have time, get your rest. GOOD LUCK....it will be the best time of your life. Enjoy it.

stay positive, and dont show weaknesses, dont talk to that many players trying out because you can end a friendship easily by getting on the team when your friend didnt.

I am a coach. The biggest thing that coaches are looking for is someone who will work their butt off & is willing to learn (coachable).
