Im 33, 5'9'', 170, with a 32 inch waist.
Maybe he is little big at the gut, but not that big.
However, if he gets into bad habits, he can grow fast. Watch it.
But don't push him to do certain sports: my father used to try to "get me out of the house to play hockey" and yell at me but I hated that, and I wouldn't budge.
I liked individual stuff like running and wrestling...but wasn't very good.
All the junk food is hard on the system...
You can't *make* other people do anything...but just provide the environment. The more you push someone and yell at them, the less they will do it.
Hope that helps.

He's probably a touch heavier than some 13-year olds. However, be aware that boys at age 13 can physically change in a very dramatic way. Some kids can grow eight inches and gain thirty or more pounds in less than one year due to their growth spurt.
If your son is sedentary to the point where he does NOTHING physically, then some restrictions (video games, TV viewing,) should be in force. Keep excessively sugary and or fatty foods out of their diet. (Avoid frequent outings to fast food restaurants).
Ride a bike with him or go for a brisk walk. Are YOU a physically active person that your son can model after? ( Many parents call their children sedentary, but they, the parent do little or nothing in the way of sports activities.)
If you have to, put an additional lock on the house doors, DON'T give your kids the keys, and dedicate an hour of each day where the kids have to be OUT OF THE HOUSE so they can do something physical, like some fun outdoor game or easy challenging sport. Again, parental involvement helps tremendously. Even a game of dodge ball in the backyard is tons of fun. Roust up some other kids and get the "juices" flowing.
Finally, some kids are diagnosed as clinically depressed, and parents put these kids on medically-directed anti-depressants. Please try and avoid medication, if at all possible, unless the depression is critical and regarded by medical experts as potentially harmful to your child.

He is definitely overweight! He is almost 150 lbs which is what a 17 year old boy would weigh at the height of 5"10.
Get the glutton off pizza and onto a good diet followed by exercise. 12 pushups are nothing. He should be able to do at least 25-30 easily.
You have reason to be concerned.

He's about the same age as my son, slightly shorter, but about the same weight. Mine is a district 400m champion, and plays rugby and tennis. It isn't just the weight, but what the weight is - muscle or fat.
Get somebody to do a Body Mass Index, combined with a Body Composition Index on him.
12 push ups is a bit sad.
Try cooking something other than pizza. It's not the only food in the world.

It depends on what kind of weight. 5'7" 148 with muscle weight and nice muscle tone. We call it hot. (I'm 5'8" 160). But, if your son looks chubby... He may need more exercise. With waist 31, he is not overweight. But, he need to stop being lazy. When I was 13, I was 4'9" 140 lb. waist 38. I used to be bullied by tall jocks. I took it so personally and exercised everyday. Yet, I didn't cut down on my food. Make sure your son has plenty on vitamins and minerals. You son is in much better shape than I used to be. If he puts some effort to it, he will be one hot guy attracting so many girls lining up from first street to thirty-sixth street. Push up only can help building back muscles, deltoids and arm muscles. 12 is not enough. I suggest running and doing sit up. Swimming is another good way to change fat weight to muscle weight. Eating pizza is not a major problem. As long as he work out his muscles. Things will be fine and you will be proud of your son.

Technically, he is.
I'm 6'3" 250lbs with only 4% body fat and I'm technically overweight.
The scale that is used to determine over/under weight does not take into account how fit he is. Muscle weighs a lot more than fat, so if he's mostly muscle, then I wouldn't worry about it.

That's a pretty decent amount of maximal pushups for someone so sedentary.
I think he needs to go to Fat Camp or even just a Basketball Camp or something and also you need to take him for a walk everynight....don't let him say NO!

He's a little heavy for his size, but nothing to be worried about. He needs to change his eating/exercise habits because eventually his metabolism will slow down and he will become overweight.

No, not according to his weight. However, you are the parent and you should be able to tell, what he is made of "Fat" or "Muscle". If you are worried, don't by him pizza or fattening fast food. Steam him some veggies.
