In most cases, EMT's aren't the people who do the actual rescuing. Though there may have been EMT's that lost their lives, the likelihood that it was a high number of EMT's being in the building when it fell may not be likely at all. In some cities, the firefighters are also trained paramedics or even EMT's because they are first-responders.

I think they are only doing what they hired on to do. Many people in this country die each year doing work in their chosen profession, they go under and don't even leave a ripple. No more or less a hero than any other working person. If they find themselves unwilling to accept the risks they should move on to other work. I think the word hero is overused.

I believe they are grouped with firefighters and paramedics. The media might be reluctant to use the initials EMT because people may not know what it means.

All "first responders" are heroes in my book. And yes, that includes EMT's.

I agree they are indeed heroes. They have saved me, with God's help numerous times, and why they didn't get much mention on 9/11, I haven't a clue. God bless.

They grouped us in with the firefighters.... I am sure it was implied though. :-) Not too many people recognize EMT, they know us as ambulance drivers.
