A more sensible thing to do is to try and make regular visits back to New York, that way you can keep your accent and visit family and friends at the same time. That's what I do, I moved from New York to New Jersey and people sound a little country here and I'm starting to lose my accent, so I'm taking a trip in a couple of weeks.

You would have to become deaf. Inevitably if you speak with the locals you will sound like the locals. If you try to keep the NY accent you may not sound completely Texan but the NYers will notice the difference. Anyways I think a southern accent is slightly sexier than a NY accent but you always like what you can't have, I'm in IL.

Haha, I don't think the accent will change. Just try to talk to your friends and family back in NY a lot and kind of exaggerate the accent a little more.

Just be yourself. I lost a bit of mine to the South, but that's okay in the end. It's like a souvenir from the time I spent down there.

Keep in touch with your buddies on the East Coast by phone so you don't lose that cool you worked yourself up to throughout the years.

Who really cares, luckily in Australia we all speak the same way and don't worry about such trivia.
If you live in Texas that is your home now, just go with the flow.
