You use y for and but if the word that comes after the y (pronounced ee) also has the (ee) sound you would use e and not y. Example la manzana y la naranga (the apple and the orange). The other example would be Espanol e Ingles son idiomas hablados por todo el mundo (Spanish and English are languages spoken all over the world).

i think it's "y"....pronounced like E. That's what I remember from spanish class.

"Y" in general. But if the following word begins with "i", you use "e". For example: Yo visité muchas tiendas E iglesias. (I visited many shops and churches)
